Printed report of the proceedings of the 7th Intercolonial Congress Committee, 1891
Ballarat Trades Hall was part of the Intercolonial Trades Hall Congresses that were created for the purposes of collective organising within labour organisations. There were eight Congresses within Australia that regularly discussed: - legislation of trade unions - organisation of labour - abolition of ‘Chinese and coolie immigration’ - Compulsory Court of Arbitration - Employers Liability Act - legalisation of the 8 hours system - land nationalisation - manhood suffrage - direct representation of labour in Parliament - appointment of working men on technical and other boards - free compulsory and secular education by the state and regulation of apprentices. Some of the resolutions passed related to: - the Commonwealth Draft Bill - assisted immigration - payment to Members of Parliament - single tax - paid union organisers, - minimum wage - industrial federation. This document has been published with the Certificate of Incorporation under the Companies Act 1938 limiting the Company by Guarantee. The Special Licence grants dispensation for the use of the word "Limited". The Special Licence was granted by the Victorian State Attorney General T.W. Mitchell whose father-in-law was Harry Chauvel (led the calvary charge at Beersheba during World war 1). This document records the legal status of 'Junior Legacy, Melbourne' in 1952. Melbourne Legacy has had name changes over the years. In September 1952 Junior Legacy Melbourne was incorporated. Under the provisions of the Companies Act 1938, it was registered as a company with limited liability without the need for 'limited' in its' name (see page 1). Two other copies are at 00317 and 01490.Signifies that Junior Legacy Melbourne was incorporated under the Companies Act 1938 and the special licence granted to Junior Legacy, Melbourne meant that Junior Legacy Melbourne did not have to use the word "Limited" upon condition that the terms of the Memorandum and Articles of Association submitted to and cerified by the Attorney General are strictly followed. A record of a former entity of Melbourne Legacy. Functional object - Two silver jam spoons, c1900
Electroplated silver spoons were commonly used in the late 1800s to early 1900. These spoons were owned by Mrs Alice Dinsmore, grandmother of Mrs. Jean Raper of Wodonga. Spoon 1 (at the top of the image) bears the hallmark of George Waterhouse & Co of Sheffield, England. II is labelled EPNS which stands for Electroplated nickel silver. Spoon 2 bears the makers mark WM & S, the mark of William Mammatt & Sons of Sheffield which operated under that name from 1886 until 1906. In 1901 Maxfield & Sons and the associated businesses of J.& J. Maxfield and W. Mammatt & Sons were converted into a single liability company under the style of J. & J. Maxfield Ltd and in 1908 was reformed as Maxfield & Sons (Silversmiths) LtdThis item is from the Raper Collection donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Mrs. Jean Raper.2 silver plate jam spoons. 'A communication from Mr. A.T. Balaam asking that the Central Board of Health be communicated with on the subject of arsenical fumes from the furnaces of the Bendigo Tailings Company at Quarry Hill, where pyrites are to be treated, was also referred to the Mayor.' Bendigo Independent, City Council, p9. 31st May 1913. 'Tenders are invited by the Bendigo Tailings Company for the purchase of two complete cyanide plants, first class assay plants, stores and equipment.
