Trophy donated in 1970, by Mr Peter Damman in memory of his father, a Past Commodore of the Club, Seasons 1924-1918, and Long Serving member. Allocated for ‘Off-the-Beach Boats’ it was first won January 15, 1972, by J.S. Collingwood with the Heron Class yacht Cirius II. Later to become solely for the Cadet Dinghy Section and first won Season 1975-76 by L. Mulligan with Kestrel. Following the demise of the 12ft Cadet Dinghy Class, trophy reallocated to cover Squadron long distance series of events.Silver rose bowl trophy standing 240 mm high to lip edge, 380 mm in diameter on solid flared stepped footing. The Civil Air Patrol is the official USAF auxiliary. Formed during WW 2, it is currently tasked with search and rescue, communications, civil defense and aerospace education (via the CAP Cadet program) The Civil Air Patrol, while formed in WW2, became the auxiliary of the USAF when the air force was formed as a separate service in 1947. The uniform is based on the USAF uniform with distinguishing CAP insignia and badges. It is unusual to find CAP items in collections.Blue-grey wool serge USAF peaked hat with black patent leather peak (with light grey underside). Black leather chin strap secured by two 16 mm diameter metal buttons embossed with the USAF insignia. Dark blue hat band. Mid grey head band and light tan lining. Maunufacturer's label stapled and sewn to head band. Metal tab support for front of crown and metal strip reinforcement to edge of crown. 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Association marched in Anzac Day parades each year in Albury, Wangaratta, Benalla and Cobram. Surrey College was opened in early 1892 by Rev. Dr Frederick Darling who had been the first minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canterbury Road. He resigned this position to open the school which operated until 1908 with additional premises at 12 Vincent Street. The school had 40 boarders as well as day boys. Courses included algebra, euclid, history, typewriting, shorthand and drill. In the 1930s, Nethercourt Private Hospital took over the site. Later it became St Jude's Hospital. land in front of the building was subdivided off in the 1970s. The building is still extant as a private dwelling with York Street, Surrey Hills as the address. This is one of 3 photos donated by Susan Hobbs, whose grandfather Rev. George Edward Downton is thought to have been a student at the college. George E. Downton was born in Avoca in 1885. He was later a missionary in New Guinea and Secretary to the Australian Board of Missions in Adelaide. He died in 1926 or 1927.
