Amy Huxtable was born at Cheltenham in 1918, to Robert Henry Huxtable and Violet A Dagg. Her father was an installer for an oil company and travelled the State. taking his family with him. She completed her education at the Bendigo High School and later attended the Bendigo Business College, becoming an expert shorthand writer. Her first position was as a copy writer with Radio 3BO, in the mid 1930s. She worked with an advertising agency in Melbourne and then with the Age,newspaper. In 1953, Miss Huxtable was appointed temporarily to succeed Miss E B Millane as social editress of the Bendigo Advertiser, during the latter's absence abroad. In 1956, Amy travelled abroad and on her return in 1957 was appointed permanently as Women's editor, a position she held for twenty-three ears. During her early years with The Advertiser she wrote under the name Toora, but in later years her own name became widely known. Miss Huxtable was well known both in her professional capacity and through a interest and involvement in community activites. She was life governor of the Bendigo Hospital, the Bendigo Home for the Aged, and Mirridong Home for the Blind, she was a member of Soroptimist International and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Amy was also a tireless worker for the spastic society and a strong supporter of the YWCA. When Amy Huxtable died at Mt AJvernia Hospital on 16 January 1980 Mayor Campbell ordered the city flag to be flown at half-mast. "Lowering the flag is the least we can do for such a lady" Cr Campbell said. Douglas Lockwood, editor of the Bendigo Advertiser said, "She was a devot d colleague who gave her craft and her newspaper the kind of service which identified a rare and generous spirit." She was a true professional who decided to make Bendigo her home. More than 300 people packed St Paul's Church for her funeral ervice the bell tolled as the casket was carried from the church. At a ceremony in the Conservatory Gardens on No ember 22 1981 The Amy Huxtable Memorial Committee presented to the City of Bendigo, a garden seat in memory of the late Miss Huxtable. This Bendigo manufactured seat was a fitting tribute to one ofBendigo's most loved and esteemed citizens. Before hot and cold water was easily available children were bathed in small tubs. An oval metal wash tub. The base has a four centmetres metal band around it that extends two and a half centimetres below the bottom of the tub. The bottom of the tub is an oval 50 centimetres long and 40 centimeters wide. The wall is 29 centimetres high with rolled rim half a centimetre wide on the top, it's made in two pieces that are folded together at each end. The top of the tub is an oval 62 centimetres long and 49 centimetres wide. There are identical metal handles at the top of the tub at each end, they are made of a one centimetre diameter metal rode, they have a nine centimetres long grip, a four centimetre piece at right angles on each end and a two centimetre long piece at the opposite right angle on the end which is inserted into a two centimetre loop that's attached to the tub. wash tub, personal hygiene

The Kew Historical Society collection includes almost 100 subdivision plans pertaining to suburbs of the City of Melbourne. Most of these are of Kew, Kew East or Studley Park, although a smaller number are plans of Camberwell, Deepdene, Balwyn and Hawthorn. It is believed that the majority of the plans were gifted to the Society by persons connected with the real estate firm - J. R. Mathers and McMillan, 136 Cotham Road, Kew. The Plans in the collection are rarely in pristine form, being working plans on which the agent would write notes and record lots sold and the prices of these. The subdivision plans are historically significant examples of the growth of urban Melbourne from the beginning of the 20th Century up until the 1980s. A number of the plans are double-sided and often include a photograph on the reverse. A number of the latter are by noted photographers such as J.E. Barnes.This is a second, more complete version of the Corsewall Estate subdivision that is held by the Society. The Coreswall Estate was a subdivision, bordering on Barkers Road and Auburn Road, which created Corsewall Close. This relatively late subdivision included 29 allotments. The subdivision plan includes the dimensions of each lot as well as the width of the existing and projected roads and turning circles. The Corsewall Close Precinct is now listed on the Victorian Heritage Database (HO147) and is noted for its ‘consistent flat-type development over the entire street, which has been cleverly designed to make multi-unit dwellings appear as single buildings’. In this second version of the plan, the rarity of this late subdivision is emphasised by the auctioneers. Memorial Plaque given to the family of Henry Tippett, killed in Action in France 26 July 1916. Henry enlisted when he was 28 years old on the 6 September 1915 in Melbourne. He was born in Carlton and was living at 529 Canning St. Carlton when he enlisted. A small man at 5'.5'' weighing 9 stone. He was allotted to the 15th Refits of the 7th Battalion. He embarked from Melbourne on the 18 June 1916 on the Kinfaune Castle and landed at Alexandria, On the 29 June 1916.he was transported to Marseilles and one moth later was reported Missing in Action on the 28 July 1916, A court of enquiry concluded he was Killed in Action on the 19 July 1916. He had been in France just 20 daysInscribed with the name Henry Tippett. The plaque was presented on the 4 October 1922. His father William could not attend in person and a Donald Tippett was authorised to pick up the plaque by his mother Eliza Tippett. The plaque number is 319981.His mother Eliza Tippett was granted a pension of one pound per fortnight from the 8th November 1916

This album is of local and national significance as it documents the planning and development of the Hume Reservoir up to 1927. It was the largest water reservoir in the British Empire. Handwritten extract from the Bendigo Advertiser dated 29/5/1873. Mr. A. M. McHugh, Surveyor of Admiralty Dep't fell down the Golden Fleece Shaft on 28/5/73. The undergr'd Manager, Mr. Thomas Mann, was showing him around. They had been at the 300 ft level and the cage was below them. Mann knocked for the cage which stopped about four feet above the plat. Mann knocked the cage down, but it stopped about 10' or 12' above the plat. Mann said the cage had not stopped, and before he could remove his hand from the knocker, he saw Mr. McHugh fall down the shaft. He died. In 1956, Amy travelled abroad and on her return in 1957 was appointed permanently as Women's editor, a position she held for twenty-three ears. During her early years with The Advertiser she wrote under the name Toora, but in later years her own name became widely known. Miss Huxtable was well known both in her professional capacity and through a interest and involvement in community activites. She was life governor of the Bendigo Hospital, the Bendigo Home for the Aged, and Mirridong Home for the Blind, she was a member of Soroptimist International and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Amy was also a tireless worker for the spastic society and a strong supporter of the YWCA. When Amy Huxtable died at Mt AJvernia Hospital on 16 January 1980 Mayor Campbell ordered the city flag to be flown at half-mast. "Lowering the flag is the least we can do for such a lady" Cr Campbell said. Douglas Lockwood, editor of the Bendigo Advertiser said, "She was a devot d colleague who gave her craft and her newspaper the kind of service which identified a rare and generous spirit." She was a true professional who decided to make Bendigo her home. More than 300 people packed St Paul's Church for her funeral ervice the bell tolled as the casket was carried from the church. At a ceremony in the Conservatory Gardens on No ember 22 1981 The Amy Huxtable Memorial Committee presented to the City of Bendigo, a garden seat in memory of the late Miss Huxtable. This Bendigo manufactured seat was a fitting tribute to one ofBendigo's most loved and esteemed citizens.
