In 1961 Bruce Evans was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Gippsland East. He was the party's deputy leader from 1964 to 1970 and its whip from 1970 until his retirement in 1992. "The Land Conservation Council was established by the Land Conservation Act 1970. As one of its three functions, it makes recommendations to the Minister for Planning and Environment with respect to the use of public land, in order to provide for the balanced use of land in Victoria. This report contains the Council’s final recommendations concerning the use of public land in the East Gippsland study area, the boundaries of which correspond to those of the Shire of Orbost. The recommendations in the text are grouped under major headings, such as Parks, State Forest, and so on. " The Council met on seven occasions during the year, and also made visits of inspection to each study area. The Chairman visited Shire Councils in study areas to explain the role and the functions of the Land Conservation Council and to invite submissions on the use of public land in these areas. The Percy Uebergang family lived at Tooram Park, Allansford from 1912 until 1992. Percy and Myrtle Uebergang's children were twins, Ray and Joyce born in 1926 who lived at Tooram Park until their deaths, Ray in 1986 and Joyce in 1992. Neither Ray nor Joyce married and following the death of her brother Joyce set up the Ray and Joyce Uebergang Foundation which supports the local community. This photograph is part of the collection of items given into the care of the Cheese World Museum. The Collingwood Ramblers cricket team made trips to Victorian country towns where they would present an evening concert entertainment. Often they would play a cricket match during the day against a team from the particular town they were visiting. Despite the specific dates noted for the tour of the Warrnambool-Camperdown area there are no references to the visit in the local press. There are a number of references in local press to visits elsewhere. A poster publicising the concerts is also in the collection. Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. A photo and two hand written notes about a former Legacy Girls' Class attendant in 1993. It appears there was a visit by a legatee and a legatee's wife to a former junior legatee, showing that people kept in contact with Legacy for a long time. The photo shows Florence Moore (nee Moll) and her husband Bert being visited by Legatee George Standish and Jane Sullivan, who was the wife of Legatee John Sullivan (President in 1991). The note with the photo says it was for the archive in 1993. The handwritten letter from the Moores says: Dear George (Standish), . . . Enclosed is the photo I promised to send you we are Bert and Florence Moore (nee Moll). . . We enjoyed the day very much and it was sad news to learn that Flo Kennedy (one of the original Legacy girls) had passed away. Regards, Bert and Florence. This glass has been purchased by a visitor to Warrnambool as a utilitarian souvenir of the visit. Tourism has been an important business in Warrnambool for over100 years. In the late 19th century Warrnambool was promoted as a spa resort with its mild climate, coastal swimming and hot and cold seawater baths. Today the visitors come in winter to see the Southern Right whales at Logans Beach and other coastal areas and in summer they come for a beach holiday. This glass is retained as an example of the mid 20th century tourist souvenirs obtainable in Warrnambool. This is a small glass tumbler, oval-shaped. The rim and the base are encircled by thick gold bands with smaller gold bands underneath the rim and above the bottom gold band. The life and times of a legendary Melbourne musician who lived life with the brakes off. The Ship's Report Inward contains entries from 1877 to 1917. It is a record of vessels that visited the Port of Warrnambool during that time and was filled in by the Harbour Master on behalf of the Warrnambool Harbour Board. The book has also been used as football scrapbook for both the Australian and Victorian Leagues, with articles and photographs from the early 20th century events and photos of players in 1953. A child has also used the book for drawing and writing.It appears that this historic ledger was once regarded as insignificant and used for other purposes such as a scrapbook and spare paper for drawing. However, the ledger is now considered to be of important locall significant for its accurate reports of all vessels inward bound to the Port of Warrnambool, giving a summary of activities during the forty year period from 1877 to 1917. Thomas Stoddart, 1828 - 1905, bought 12 white marble statues during a visit to Italy. Stoddart arranged for them to be shipped to Victoria and placed on pedestals of Sicilian marble and on bases of Victorian granite. These statues were unveiled in the gardens on Queen Victoria's birthday, 24th May, 1884. His intention was for the statues to adorn and add interest to the gardens. The Association of Railway Enthusiasts, a Melbourne based group, ran its first tour to Ballarat on 23 July 1961 and its last tour on 6 May 2023 also to Ballarat to visit the Museum. The group has subsequently ceased to function. The booking form provides details of the tour and times. The two tickets were used by participants as souvenirs of the day which included a lunch pack. Neville Bunning taught Sculpture and ceramics at the Ballarat Technical Art School, a division of the Ballarat School of mines, from 1945 until 1964. During that time he formed the Ballarat Artist's Society, a group that sponsored art and invited modernist artists to visit Ballarat to speak to students and the public. This photograph is taken in a Hospital. RDNS Liaison Officer, Sister Pat Holdsworth is giving the hospital patient, who was to be seen by RDNS District staff on his discharge, a leaflet explaining what to expect at the time of the first RDNS visit. Sr. Hodsworth is wearing the RDNS summer uniform of that era, which was a white blouse worn under a royal blue V neck tunic style frock with the RDNS insignia emblazoned on the upper left.Liaison had occurred between doctors and the nurses of the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS), from its inception in 1885. This increased when Midwifery was introduced in 1893 with close liaising with the Women’s Hospital. As District nursing grew it was recognized that closer liaising between many Public Hospitals would be beneficial, for not only the MDNS, later called Royal District Nursing Service,(RDNS), nursing staff, but also for the patients and the hospitals. In August 1964 a Liaison Officer commenced at the Alfred Hospital. This soon increased to Liaison Officers working full time at several Public Hospitals. At the time of a patient’s discharge, the Liaison Sister forwarded information on their diagnosis and instructions regarding the care required at home to the appropriate RDNS Centre, and in turn the attending District sister wrote a report of progress and any queries to the hospital doctor, via the Liaison sister, at the time the patient was attending outpatients. Any new instructions were then sent back to the District sister. The RDNS Sister is visiting the mother and babe in their home. She is using sterile equipment and swabs to firstly moisten the tulle gras to enable ease of its removal before redressing the open areas on the babes skin with sterile dressings. With RDNS visiting the home of the mother, the young babes routine can continue to be established at home, rather than them having to regularly visit a Doctor or Hospital department for redressing of the babes lesions. The Trained nurses (Nurses) of the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS), from its inception in 1885, provided wound care to their patients who ranged in age from the very young to the elderly. The patients required their wounds to be dressed following various types of surgery, accidents, burns, skin conditions, cancer, leg ulcers etc. As research developed better products and dressing materials, the methods and medication applied to wounds changed. MDNS received Royal patronage in 1966 and as Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), the Education department developed wound care programs, such as the Leg Ulcer Management Program to provide their Trained nurses (Sisters) with methods of best quality care. They ran a program for Wound Care Specialists who made assessments and provided advice and support to the District Sisters working in the field as needed. The Sisters liaised with the patient’s Doctors and Hospitals to provide information on the progress of patient’s wounds and to receive any change of wound care from the Doctors. On the left in the black and white photograph is a Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), Sister, who has short, straight blonde hair, and is wearing a white gown over her uniform is bending over a bassinet as she attends a baby with a skin condition. This set of photos is from a leather bound album bearing the inscription "HUME RESERVOIR AUSTRALIA" plus 'The Rt. Hon. L. C. M. S. Amery, P. C., M .P.' all inscribed in gold. It was presented to The Rt. Hon. L. C. M. S. Amery, P. C., M. P, Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs on the occasion of his visit to the Hume Reservoir on 2nd November 1927. This album is of local and national significance as it documents the planning and development of the Hume Reservoir up to 1927. It was the largest water reservoir in the British Empire. The album records the pioneering engineering work that went into its construction.RIVER MURRAY WATERS SCHEME, HUME RESERVOIR THE LARGEST IN THE BRITISH EMPIRE. ' The history of the inception of the River Murray Waters Agreement under the terms of which the Hume Reservoir is being constructed, the purposes of the work, its correlation to the other works on the Murray and the methods of construction are all outlined in the attached article entitled “The River Murray Waters Scheme, the Nile of Australia”, by Mr H.H. Dare, M.E., M.Inst.C.E., Commissioner, Water Conservation and Irrigation, and the New South Wales Representative on the River Murray Commission. The article was published in 1925 and some alterations brought about by the efflux of time are necessary. As far as personnel is concerned, the death of Mr J.S. Dethridge, M.Inst.C.E., removed a very able engineer from the councils of the Commission. His place as Representative of Victoria has been taken by Mr R. Horsfield. It is also to be regretted that ill-health has caused the retirement of Mr E.M. de Burgh, M.Inst.C.E., the eminent Chief Engineer for New South Wales, who, with Mr Dethridge, was largely responsible for the Agreement cemented by the River Murray Waters Acts and, inter alia, for the design of the Hume Dam. The following summary of the progress of work on the Locks might be substituted for the latter part of Mr Dare’s paragraph. Up to the present time six locks and weirs have been completed, the highest in the series being at Torrumberry and the lowest at Blanchetown. Locks No.26 at Torrumberry and No.11 at Mildura were built by Victoria and are in use. A lock and weir (No.10) is in progress at Wentworth, and the necessary camp arrangements, purchase of plant, etc., have been undertaken in connection with lock and weir No.15 at Euston, both under the direction of New South Wales.
