Photograph, Leviny Silver Standing Cup, c1863
The Silver Standing Cup was made by Ernest Leviny c1860 and presented to Mr Charles Abraham Saint, editor of the Mount Alexander Mail newspaper, by the town's citizens on his departure from Castlemaine on 31 December 1863. Mount Alexander Mail report; 23 January 1864. This substantial silver centrepiece was the second masterpiece created by Ernest Leviny around 1859. It is decorated with highly detailed cast figures, fine embossing and chasing. This work of Australian Colonial significance reflects Leviny's rich European artistic background which he successfully merged with new Australian motifs, which epitomise the great wealth, ambition and pride at that time in the emerging, young Colony of Victoria.Semi matt surface albumen print mounted on cream coloured card with border around image drawn in pencil. Document - Script, Robin Boyd, The Flying Dogtor. Episode 23 Z for Danger, 1963
The most secretive experiments of the most secretive scientists were carried out in Room Z at the Woomera Range Space Rocket Division. The only people with a key were the topmost scientist, the Prime Minister and the cleaning lady. They had to wait until 5pm for the cleaning lady to arrive so they could get Crafty Carson Carpetbag out, who was hiding from The Flying Dogtor. The Flying Dogtor could hear Crafty making whistling, humming noises and the Secret Service Man said he was messing with Mixture 8X, the most secretive invention of them all, Special Reducing Mixture for use when travelling in small satellites. The Flying Dogtor" series was broadcast on Australian Television Network (later becoming the Seven Network) between February and April 1964 (see item D254 for schedule).Handwritten in pencil, foolscap, 2 pagesThe title is crossed out and it is noted that this is a contraction (eliminating sound effects) of Episodes 23, 24, and 25. Document - Manuscript, Robin Boyd, The Architect's Role in the Community
Appears to be a handwritten speech where Boyd discusses the architect's role in the community and describes architecture as "getting bigger". Boyd describes the shift in architect's thinking as moving away from the individual building to the city or the community. He argues that architecture inherently affects our lives if we live in ugliness, or in attractive surroundings and that the architect is responsible as moral and artistic leaders of the built environment.Handwritten (pencil), quarto, 1 pageNumbered paragraphs.
