Architectural drawings, Civic x2 Project House
Robin Cocks (1941- ) and Peter Carmichael (1942 - ) formed their partnership in 1967, and designed some of Australia's most innovative project houses in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The award winning Civic Growth House (1974) was designed for Civic Construction. It provided clients with a modular grid and a range of components that allowed choice in location and spatial variation. The houses were designed to be expanded as families grew or as finance became available. The one-level Civic X2 was constructed in full-brick, included a pergola and deck, and a private courtyard off the main bedroom, This drawing includes floor plan, elevation and section.architecture, domestic architecture, project homes -

Bag Canvas Water, Circa 1950
This extract from an advertisement in the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper of 1/12/1959 places the era in which this water bag was prolific throughout rural Australia. " ABERDEEN CANVAS GOODS for the man on the land here is Australia's most useful, convenient and hygienic water bag. Its special unbreakable plastic nozzle is fitted with a perforated filter strainer. Made from long flax canvas, its universal handle enables it to be hung on bumper bar, wire fence or on hook or nail" The availability of clean cool drinking water in remote rural locations was essential for survival under the blistering Australian summer sun. This was in a pioneer era when transport, roads and convenience stores were ,in a lot of "outback" Australia, in short supply and survival was dependent upon what could be carried by vehicle or pack horse. When the Kiewa Hydro Electricity Scheme became a reality, the use of the water bag was one of the essential personal items of survival given to each person working in the forests and on and in the high plains environment. Even in an outside stationary work place the availability of cool clean water was a prerequisite. The canvas water bag allowed any wind or airflow to cool down the water, even on very hot days, to provide a refreshing and throat quenching supply of water. These bags could be fastened onto the front of vehicles or hanging from shady tree branches thereby permitting air flow around the bag. During the "wearing in" period the residual taste from the canvas was fairly strong, this became considerably less as time and a half moved on. This "Aberdeen" long flax canvas water bag is held together on two sides and the top by strong heavy cotton stitching. The iron fashioned carrying handle has, protruding from its top elevation ,a very strong hook (well in excess of the bags' weight requirement). At the top, of the bag, and on one side only, is a brown coloured bakelite spout (with an inbuilt filter) protruding upwards. This spout has its matching , screw on, lid complete with attachment chain (not fixed at the handle end)On the front of the bad and stenciled in bold lettering, "ABERDEEN" and directly below "Travellers" and below this "FILTER BAG". Below this are two parallel black lines enclosing an ochre coloured band(12mm wide) running around the bottom section of the bag. Below this band is stenciled the number 14 in black (25mm high) figures. The spout lid has stamped on the top surface and within the outline of Australia, "ABERDEEN FILTER WATER BAG". Above this and close to the edge of the lid is pressed "PAT. No 9149/32 and down at the bottom rim is stamped "RD. No. 9870". canvas, water bag, water container, camping equipment, survival pack -

Photograph - Building Rocky Valley Dam Wall
The Rocky Valley Dam is located on the Bogong High Plains, near Falls Creek, Victoria. The dam is man-made and has a capacity of 28,000 megalitres (990×106 cu ft). At an elevation of 1600m, Rocky Valley Dam is the highest significant body of water in Australia. The dam was created for the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme. Just a short distance from the heart of the village, the lake provides a playground for a range of aquatic activities. It is also utilised in snow making for the Falls Creek ski resort. Work began on the Rocky Valley Dam site in early 1947 and continued until May. It resumed in October after the winter and a camp for the accommodation of workmen was commenced at this time. Work continued in 1948 with the establishment of work facilities, including the erection of two large excavators. The Rocky Valley Dam was completed in 1959.These images are significant as they capture work carried out to build the wall at Rocky Valley near Falls Creek, VictoriaThree black and white images showing work on the Rocky Valley Dam, Victoriarocky valley dam, kiewa hydroelectric scheme, falls creek -

This hand drawn map shows the Gully Chair, Summit Tow and the Village Tow. It also highlights the Nursery Poma. Several buildings can be seen along with the Visitor Centre in the Gully carpark, Skyline can can be seen adjacent to the Gully Chair. The Sun Valley T-Bar was designed by Ron McCallum and began operation in 1967. It had a length of 826 metres and an elevation of approximately 200 metres. In 1989 the Sun Valley T-Bar was replaced by the Scott Quad. Ron McCallum was a founder of Alpine Developments. It appears that his first lift was the Skyline portable tow at Falls Creek in 1954. As an engineer, he went on to build about 20 chairlifts and T-bars in the 1960s and early 1970s including at least five at Falls Creek. This map is significant because it shows plans for the development of a major tow at Falls Creek in the 1960s.A framed black and white concept map for the proposed new lift in Sun Valley, Falls Creek.sun valley tow, ron mccallum, falls creek tows -

Document, Steam Cylinder Horizontal Engin, 1919
This drawing was produced by Ron Uebergang in 1919 at the Warrnambool Technical School. Members of the Uebergang families have been in the Warrnambool/Allansford area since the early 1850s. Ronald Uebergang (1903-1971) was born in Warrnambool, the son of Ernest Uebergang and Mary Watson. He lived at the family property, Hopkins Hill, and went to Allansford State School and Warrnambool Technical School. He was mechanically-minded, fond of music and dancing and a keen photographer. He married Myra Hall and they ran a dairy farm at Hopkins Hill and later went in for grazing beef cattle. Warrnambool Technical School was established in 1913, firstly at a Timor Street site and later at Caramut Road. Today it is called Brauer College. This drawing is of considerable interest as it was produced by Ron Uebergang. Members of the Uebergang families have been prominent in the Warrnambool/Allansford area since the early days of the district’s establishment. It is also important as a good example of the type of work produced by students from Warrnambool Technical School in its early years. This is a1919 drawing of a Steam Cylinder for a 45 HP Horizontal Engine. The drawing is half the full size of the cylinder. The drawing is on a white card with the sketches done in black and red ink. The card has a heavy black margin around the edges drawn in black ink. The drawing shows a Sectional Plan and a Half Side Elevation with the Cover Plate Removed. The card has the signature of Ron Uebergang. Attached by a metal clip to the card are four pages of measurements and plans of the steam cylinder. These are in black and red ink. Three of these pages have become partly detached. ‘Designed by R. Uebergang’ ‘Drawn by R. Edith (Alice) WATSON (1914–2010) Murtoa | Australia Alice Watson studied at the Ballarat Technical Art School (at the School of Mines, Ballarat) from 1930 until 1933. Watson sat several departmental exams, including drawing and painting plant forms from nature, lettering, Composition of Form and Colour and advanced General Design, as well as dressmaking and embossed leatherwork. Watson's folio applies many Australian native floral elements to design. Upon graduating, Watson taught at the Murtoa High School, living with her parents until their deaths in 1972 and 1988 when she was 74 years old. Slide - DIGGERS & MINING. GETTING THE GOLD, c1850s
Diggers & Mining. Getting the Gold. Slide: (Continued) The scene at the Gravel Pits was especially animated, and would have made a capital sketch. The crowded assemblage of white awnings on these clay heaps, which the diggers had raised to protect them at their work on rainy weather, these standing at different elevations; the diggers turning their windlasses; and others, in rows of half-a-dozen along the sides of muddy pools, working away at their puddling tubs with their shovels, chopping and stirring them about; other cradling; others washing out.
