Notes include dates of electrification of lines, station openings, valuations, railway station names and their origins. Reference to council minutes regarding request to change the name of Elsternwick station to Caulfield in June 1871. 2/Original newspaper article from ‘The Age’ dated 10/06/1978 by Graeme Davidson titled ‘A case study of Railway politics’. Article refers to a publication called ‘Return to Rosstown, Railway, Land Sales and Sugar Beet ventures in Caulfield’ by D. F. ‘Return to Rosstown’ recounts the story of the Rosstown Junction railway and its creator, William Murray Ross. Tells of Ross’ life since coming to Australia from Liverpool and how he prospered as a land speculator owning large tracts of land in Caulfield, the sugar mill and his plans to operate a railway. 3/Original newspaper article (and image) from ‘Moorabbin Standard’ dated 25/11/1981, titled ‘Centenary train to carry mayors’. Article reports that a special train will run from Spencer Street Station to Mordialloc railway Station on Saturday 19/12/1981 to celebrate the centenary of the railway line to Mordialloc. Story mentions that in 1881, the Caulfield to Mordialloc line was a single track and that passengers can also board the special train at Caulfield Station. Some writing on the rear identifies the subject. 2/A typewritten letter, (1 page) dated 1946 (no date more specific than that specified), from the Chairman & Honorary Treasurer of the Caulfield Central RSL Appeal Committee (name unspecified) to the Mayor of Caulfield (name also unspecified), imploring the latter for a donation of $20,000 dollars for purposes of constructing a Memorial Hall to eulogize servicemen killed during WWII. Two copies of a sixteen page booklet titled First Fifty Years, detailing a brief history, researched by John Watson, of St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, Balaclava Road Caulfield, between 1910-1960. The booklet includes several images, including two photographs, one of the interior of the church, the other of the interior of the main hall. There is also a set of six portrait photographs of the ministers of St. Stephen’s from 1913-1960. There is also a photograph of the front view of the first church and a sketch by Haddon and Henderson architects of the design for the present, 1960, church dated to the early-mid 1920s. There is a list of names of office-bearers for the year 1960. That list has been photocopied and is included in the file.
