The Bendigo Aero Club laid out the Myers Flat aerodrome in 1929 to serve as an airport for Northern Victoria and the Riverina. Copied from a copy of an original photo loaned to me by Mrs. Jean Grimson. The photo shows patrons arriving at a race meeting being held at the racecourse fronting the Loddon Valley Highway opposite where Mrs. Grimson was living in 1985. The photo was thought to be taken around 1920? The Swan Hill train used to slow down for race patrons to jump off and enter the course from the "rear". The course was later transferred to land fronting the Myers Flat - Marong Road & Williams Road and with a railway siding on the Bendigo side of the railway crossing Myers flat (behind the Allies Hotel). Eaglehawk was declared a municipality 22/7/1862. Eaglehawk Brass band was established in 1884. At Christmas 1885 the band appeared in their new uniforms of which this hat plume was a part. The uniform was made by Mr William Cameron, tailor. These were the first uniforms to be made locally in this district. The band wore them again at the Myers Flat Boxing Day Sports event.Borough Brass Band 1896.
