Braybrook Junction State School was the original name for what later became Sunshine State School and then Sunshine Primary School (School No. 3113), one of the earliest formal educational institutions in the district. The school opened in 1891 on the corner of Hampshire Road and Morris Street, but enrolments grew so quickly that the building became inadequate within months. The first head teacher was Mr Thomas Flynn. Later in 1891, the school was relocated to the Braybrook Public Hall, at the north‑east corner of Hampshire Road & Benjamin Street. In 1892, the Education Department selected a rented site in Derby Road and the school moved there on 30th September 1892. The buildings consisted of two portable classrooms joined by a porch—a common solution for fast‑growing industrial suburbs. This list details the names of children of many of the early settlers of Braybrook Junction.Adam, Mary  Adam, Thomas  Allen, Hugh  Batchelor, Jessie  Batchelor, John  Batchelor, Margaret  Beck, John  Beck, Leonard  Bostock, Kate  Brown, Elise  Byrne, Elizabeth  Byrne, Margaret  Byrne, Mary  Catherall, Alice  Catherall, Lily  Chivers, Amy  Chivers, Emily  Davey, Albert  Davey, John  Davey, Mary  Davey, William  Dickson, Herbert  Dickson, Matilda  Ellis, ?  Ellis, ?  Ellis, ?  Ellis, ?  Flynn, John  Flynn, Rosetta Flynn, Thomas Eugene (Head Teacher) Gamble, Ethel  Gamble, Herbert  Gamble, Lily  Girling, George  Graf, Ruby  Grant, Grace  Grant, William  Hamilton, Ronald  Hamilton, Thomas  Hardwick, Gerald  Hardwick, Guy  Heinrichs, Albert  Heinrichs, Archie  Ingle, Mary  Jones, David  Jones, Louisa  Jones, Victor  Laing, Alice  Laing, William  Lancashire, Edith  Lancashire, John  Lancashire, Lavinia  Lohse, Ellen  Lovelock, Ellen  McKeirney, Bella  Montell, Ernest  O'Shannassy, Mary  Patterson, Edward  Patterson, William  Paul, Bella  Porter, Frederick  Porter, Leonard  Price, Kate  Price, William  Reade, Alfred  Reade, Florence  Readle, Wesley  Richardson, Alex  Richardson, George  Richardson, Lily  Richardson, Violet  Rose, James  Scott, Aiston  Scott, Walter  Shorten, Elizabeth  Shorten, James  Shorten, Jeremiah  Shorten, Mary  Standish, Margaret  Torr, William  Ungle, Frederick  Weinsberg, Samuel  Weinsberg, William  braybrook junction state school, hampshire road, sunshine, thomas flynn, john flynn

Rev. John Flynn, the head of the Presbyterian Inland Mission and the founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, attended the Sunshine and Braybrook State Schools. His father, Thomas Flynn, was the head teacher at the Braybrook and Braybrook Junction State Schools. Thomas and his family lived in Clarke Street, Sunshine. The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of Australia’s most iconic and important institutions. It provides aeromedical retrieval, emergency care, and primary health services to people living in rural and remote Australia — places where medical help would otherwise be hours or days away.Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia Video A Mantle of Safety, from small beginnings in 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service has grown to become the largest, most comprehensive aeromedical service in the world. The Service has grown from the dream of Rev. Dr. John Flynn who dreamt of bringing medical help to people living in Australia's vast Outback. Today, John Flynn's Mantle of Safety covers more than 80% of Australia, bringing vital health care to people who live, work and travel in remote and rural Australia. As well as emergency services, the RFDS provides a comprehensive health service through medical clinics and trains health care professionals. This video shows the work of the RFDS NSW Section whose work extends John Flynn's Mantle of Safety right across Victoria, NSW, Tasmania and part of Queensland and South Australia, covering an area the size of Western Europe. The lifesaving work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service would not be possible without the support the Service receives from State and Commonwealth Governments, businesses and the wider community.royal flying doctor, john flynn

These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, are of the Sunshine Primary School (Sunshine State School) 100th anniversary reunion. Sunshine State School (No. 3113), established in 1891 at Braybrook Junction, Sunshine State School is one of the district’s earliest educational institutions. The school operated from several temporary sites before relocating to Derby Road in 1892 and adopting the name Sunshine State School in 1907. Continuous population growth driven by local industry led to repeated expansions, including new classrooms in 1905, 1911 and 1919. In 1931 the school moved into a new brick building on Hampshire Road, constructed on the former Braybrook Junction Post Office site. Throughout the twentieth century the school remained a central part of Sunshine’s civic life, reflecting the suburb’s industrial development and growing community. Today the School still provides primary education to the children of Central Sunshine.7378.01 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.02 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.03 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.04 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.05 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.06 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.07 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.08 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 52.2).JPG 7378.09 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPG 7378.10 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPG 7378.11 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPG 7378.12 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPG 7378.13 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPG 7378.14 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPG 7378.15 - Sunshine Primary School 100 Years Reunion 1991 Photographs (Advocate 194.3).JPGsunshine state school, sunshine primary school, hampshire road, sunshine
