City of St Kilda milk tokens were aluminium tokens that residents could use to pay for daily doorstep milk deliveries. Customers left them inside empty glass bottles to be swapped for fresh, cold deliveries of milk. The tokens were manufactured by Stokes & Son, Medal Makers, a Melbourne-based company founded by Thomas Stokes who migrated to Australia from Birmingham, England, in the 1850s.
