This was donated to the Glen Eira City Council Collection by Ron Fisher. The pin belonged to Ron’s father Syd and has been in the family until its donation. Syd was a WW2 veteran who joined up in Caulfield. The Mayor of Caulfield's Patriotic Fund was established in 1939 in conjunction with the Caulfield Returned Soldier's Club. Members raised funds by hosting dances in private homes and events at the Caulfield Town Hall. The Medal, Presentation Box and Certificate from Buckingham Palace are a very important addition to Council’s History and Heritage collection because of their association with a past Mayor of the City of Caulfield Harry Carl Hortin Smith. Although a total of 85,234 Jubilee medals were awarded to 'the great and good throughout the Empire' in 1935 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V, only a handful of these medals survive in major Australian museum collections. The National Museum of Australia holds a similar medal which was awarded to Sir Robert Menzies. The Museum of Victoria also holds a similar medal but neither collection contains a presentation box or certificate from Buckingham Palace. The significance of the donation is greatly enhanced due to its good condition and the fact that it includes all items associated with the presentation the Medal. Most museum collections only include the jubilee medal. Crotonhurst was the estate of Mr William F. Langdon and his wife Sophia, the daughter of judge George H.F. Webb. A drawing room meeting was organised here by the Ladies' Harbour Lights Guild on 13 July 1926 hosted by Mrs Langdon. In an article published in the Australasian on Saturday 24 July 1926 we could read: " A drawing room meeting in connection with the Victoria Missions to Seamen took place on July 13, at Crotonhurst, Caulfield, the picturesque home of Mrs. W. F. Langdon, when the chaplain to the mission (the Rev. J. R. Weller) and other speakers explained the purpose of the Ladies' Harbour Lights Guild, and urged its claim to interest and support from the people of Victoria. The chair was taken by the mayor of Caulfield (Councillor Page), who spoke sympathetically of the fine work being carried on "week-in week-out" by members of the guild. The honorary treasurer of the guild (Miss Tracy) spoke of the need for more annual subscribers." The estate was demolished in 1937.Drawing room meetings were organised by the Ladies' Harbour Lights Guild to raise awareness and recruit new members. Beard) and the Malvern Tramways’ Harmonica Band to be held at Caulfield Town Hall on 06/06/1950 to assist the Welfare Funds of the Caulfield Central RSL and the Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen’s Mothers’ Association. Also contains an advertisement for a drapery business called Tallents. 4/The annual report of the Caulfield Central RSL, for the period 1952 – 1953. Contains announcements of the annual general meeting and annual elections, the President’s report (in which he principally discusses the club’s charity work and sporting activities), the subcommittee staff roster, the sportsmen’s honour roll, the annual accounts (e.g. balance sheet, income & expenditure statement) and the roster of nominees for office in the committee of management election. 5/A typewritten letter, (1 page) dated 26/11/1982, from Max Brian Blair, Treasurer of the Caulfield Central RSL, to Mr. R.
