This type of chemise/camisole is believed to be early 19th century. Hand sewn, sleeveless fine woven cotton, loose-fitting garment detailed with deep cream coloured ribbon lace on armholes. The neckline is square-shaped and has a broad band of ribbon filled beneath lace detailing. This original owner of this lovely christening gown is unknown. This woolen sampler was of the type created by learners practicing their stitches, in this case Phoebe Lowell, a schoolgirl who made this in 1918 at St Michael's, St Kilda where she won the Form V Needlework Prize in that year. It was purchased in the late 1990s by the donor who later moved to Emerald but, at the time, had a 2nd hand decoration shop in Camberwell when she purchased this as part of a group of garments which included bloomers, lace collars and cuffs, camisoles etc - all of which have been donated to the Museum. The donor was advised at the time of her purchase that the garments were over 100 years old although that would not have been the case for this sampler.This sampler is a reminder of the tuition which schoolgirls routinely received in sewing and embroidery as these were considered essential skills for a future housewife.Piece of cream-colored woolen fabric hemmed with herringbone stitching. This jacket which is possibly a bed jacket is believed to have been made by a schoolgirl Phoebe Lewell aged 15 in 1918 when she was attending St Michael's St Kilda and where she won the Form V Needlework Prize in 1918. It was purchased in the late 1990s by the donor who later moved to Emerald but, at the time, had a 2nd hand decoration shop in Camberwell when she purchased this as part of a group of garments which included bloomers, lace collars and cuffs, camisoles etc. - all of which have been donated to the Museum. The donor was informed at the time of purchase that the garments were over 100 years old. However, the date of this particular item is probably 1918.This lace lawn jacket is a lovely example of a decorative light jacket - possibly a bed jacket - worn in the early 20th century.Cream coloured lawn jacket, open front, lace trimmed with an open lace that ribbon could be passed through. Sleeves are half length and also trimmed with lace. The sailor-type collar is substantial and square shaped with satin stitched embroidery in the corners. The sleeves have bows in champagne coloured ribbon. Looking southwest towards the Burwood Road overpass on the Camberwell line. GC took this photograph as he liked the laciness of the bridge supports. It is GC's assumption that shortly after the Granville disaster in NSW (18 January 1977) where a train derailment wiped out the bridge supports causing the bridge to collapse and crush the train, that bridges of this kind were replaced to have a single arch bridge structure and that the opportunity was taken when the third line went out the Camberwell, Box Hill, Lilydale lines. There are now three lines there. Letters from Victorian railway authorities containing information and publication extracts forwarded to Mr. J. Rodaughan, 26 Old Lilydale Road, Ringwood East in response to requests for information associated with Lilydale Railway Line history.The line from Hawthorn to Camberwell opened on 3 April, 1882, Camberwell to Lilydale opened on 1 December, 1882. Box Hill, Ringwood and Croydon stations opened on 1 December, 1882. Croydon was originally called Warrandyte station until the name was changed to Croydon on 1 August, 1884. Nunawading was originally called Tunstall and opened on 4 June, 1888. The name was changed to Nunawading on 1 November, 1945.

Destination roll that was used in Camberwell Depot trams, Melbourne, until the late 1960's. Roll on linen, with white letters on black background. Has stencilled words "STOP CAMB" on bottom of roll, generally stencilled, though a few handwritten, miniature destination on rear to assist driver to locate the destination. Letters approx. 140 high. Roll consists of an unpainted section 525 long at top and 165 long unpainted section at base. Painted section approx. 9.9m long. Has on the bottom of the roll, a section which has been added to the roll or repaired by adding a new section. Some repainting of the old destinations also apparent. The middle of three "CITY" destinations and other parts adjacent have been repaired. The Boyds brought this vitamiser from their Camberwell home. Mandie Boyd, Robin and Patricia's eldest daughter, has very vivid memories of this gadget.
