Between the 1920’s and 1950’s the YWCA, Blue Triangle and local committee of representatives organised an Inter House Athletics Day for Girls in Geelong and Melbourne. Local Geelong business, such as the surrounding woollen mills, business firms and church clubs would form teams of seven women to compete in a variety of sports such as bowls, basketball, hockey, cricket and soccer. Sunshine Harvester Works Golf Club 1940 Club Champion won by Rupert J. Rowe. Rupert was the foundation vice-captain of the Sunshine Harvester Works Golf Club.Sunshine Harvester Works Golf Club 1940 Club Champion won by R. J. Rowe This trophy was won by my father, Rupert J. Rowe in 1940, a year when World War II was getting underway. He knew Mr. Youngman's trophy would be a very expensive one and he asked that the value of the trophy be donated to patriotic funds. My father's pleasure was in the game of golf and ability to become the Club Champion. The donation was made, and the club decided to mount the winning ball on a blackwood timber base, which matched the timber of his furniture on his home. The Geelong Cycling Club was formed in Geelong in 1908 and subsequently replaced in 1911 by the Geelong West Cycling Club as reflected in the minutes.
