Mt Beauty & District Meals on Wheels was formed in December 1967 and continues to the present day (2015) managed by the Alpine Shire. In 1967 a committee was formed to work on behalf of the Shire.Meals on Wheels has been operating in Mt Beauty & District since 1967 assisted by the Shire and involving volunteers from the community. The papers list names of volunteers and the committee members. Large number of papers foolscap & A4 size documenting the history of the Mt Beauty Meals on Wheels in Dec. 1967 through to the 1990's. This item is hand made possible by a mother for her daughters. It is hand and machine stitched. This style of aprons / pinafore is attached to the two brown dresses that are also in the collection. This item is very significant for the following reasons. Historic and social - it shows what little girls wore during the early 1900's of the Kiewa Valley. It also shows fashion of the times and how these styles of aprons were made. All which is valuable for research on these topics. There are only a few of these aprons in the collection of the KVSH, and therefore would be very rare. The condition is good enough to display, therefore it has good interpretive capacity.Girls apron or pinafore. White linen with crocheted lace around the edge which is continuous around the skirt, sleeve and neck. The shoulders flaps appears that they should be pinned to the dress beneath, and pinned together at the back of the waist. The Tawonga Primary School celebrated its centenary with a program including a fete, sports, family dance and combined church service over the weekend of the 25th - 26th Oct. 1980. The newspaper covers the Alpine Shire and included further articles that would interest visitors to the centenary.Tawonga School was one of the earliest schools in the Kiewa Valley supplying an education for the children of the local farming community. The Bogong Hotel at Tawonga, the Tawonga Butter Factory and the town of Mt Beauty articles were printed providing up to date historical information on prime locations nearby. Of interest as the Hotel has burnt down and the Butter factory no longer exists. The current (2015) Mt Beauty Tourist Centre site was to be upgraded into a 'Sports Tourism Cluster' with funding from the Government and the Alpine Shire with 'In Kind' assistance from Falls Creek Resort management Board, Parks Victoria and the Local Community & Tourism Industry. This project didn't go ahead.The Mt Beauty town was handed over to the Alpine Shire in the 1960's after completion of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The Tawonga & District Hospital was situated in Tawonga at the corner of Ryders Lane and the Kiewa Valley Highway. The construction was initiated by the Hospital & Charities Commission with considerable assistance from the SECV. It was officially opened in 1949. It was relocated to Mt Beauty in 1961.
