Thalia was the wife of Angelos Lucas (Lekatsas) who was very active in the Greek and Ithacan communities. Angelos was president of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society from 1924 - 1926 and president of Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria for three terms from 1930-32, 1934-40 and 1949-52. Worldloppet itself is a federation promoting popular cross-country skiing through these races held around the globe. In 1991 Australia became the 12th member of Worldloppet when the first Kangaroo Hoppet was held. It was a great success and has been a regular fixture on the international ski calendar ever since. Ioannis and Andreas were founding members of the IPS and Angelos was the second president of the Society between 1924.-1926. Geoffrey R. Hendy was Ballarat College of Advanced Education Registrar since 9 February, 1989,and prior to that, was a senior member of the Registry staff for about 19 years. He died suddenly in Los Angelos, United Stated of America on 8 October 1991. The Ballarat University College Annual Report, 1991 states: "Mr Hendy made a major contribution to the student administrative services of the College and was a highly regarded member of staff. He will be sadly missed."
