The Geelong Gordon Technical College obtained information from Melbourne Junior Technical School that was in its second year of operations. Due to limited space at the College, provision will be for only 50 students. Staff will comprise a Head Master, who will teach English, Civics (History) and Geography. A Mathematical and Science Master who will also have the assistance of the Gordon College Science Master. The Art Master from the Gordon College will take Modelling, Geometry and Drawing. Used at Ballarat School of Mines and Industries. The Melbourne Junior Technical School opened in 1912. It was a School for Junior Technical Work in Science, Art and Trade. This Prospectus gives information about the aim of school, courses of study, scholarships, standards of admission, holidays, evening classes, regulations, rules, sports, staff, advice to students and parents, railway and tram fares and syllabuses of work. As this was the first year of the School, Staff were introduced and their previous positions were detailed. Head Master was Mr P McCormick who had been head of the Junior Technical School at the Working Men's College. The Senior Master was Mr Bruce who had also been at the Working Men's College. Mr Hauser was selected for his position at the Education Department and would be the English Master. Mr Gilmore was the Art Master and had been at the Working Men's College. Mr Lewis was appointed Mathematical Master. He was a graduate from Melbourne University. The Science Master was Mr R A White and was an instructor at the Junior Technical School, Bendigo School of Mines and Industries. He was awarded an Australian Print Council Commission in 2004 and 2014. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. Maryanne was born in Melbourne in 1960. While she was very young her family moved to Ballarat, Victoria, where she was educated. She attended the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne from 1979 to 1981 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) Painting. She undertook further studies at the University of NSW graduating in 1984 with a Graduate Diploma in Professional Studies (Painting). She commenced a Master of Arts candidature in 1996 at the University of Ballarat converting this to a PhD candidature in 1997, receiving her Doctor of Philosophy in 2000. Her first major award was the Blake Prize that she won jointly in 1983 with the painting " Easter in my Room", now part of the collection of the Australian Catholic University, Ballarat Campus. Maryanne has worked as a Sessional Lecturer at the Arts Academy, University of Ballarat (1999 - 2003), the Department of Fine Art and Design, Monash University, Melbourne (2000 - 2005) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Latrobe University, Bendigo Campus (2008). She was a Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Science, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne and Ballarat campuses (2003 - 2004). She is currently (from 2006) a Lecturer in Drawing and Painting in the Department of Fine Art, Monash University, Melbourne. Sheetmetal was introduced to the Ballarat School of Mines in this year, as was the Ballarat Junior Technical School - a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. Assay and Chemical Laboratories remodelled. It was decided that the new Ballarat Technical Art School would be built on the site of the former Circuit Courthouse, which for many years served as a Museum for the School. It was noted that demolishing this building would remove one of the very oldest landmarks of Ballarat. Swinger operated between 1972 and 1975 at Ballarat Civic Hall. The Ballarat Observatory was transferred to the Ballarat East Council. Thomas S. Hart resigned to fulfil the position of Head Master of the School of Forestry at Creswick. B. Whitington resigned to fill the position of Directorr of the School of Mines at Queenstown, Tasmania.
