The Billiard Room and South wing were completed in 1914, built by recommendation of the Lesee John Newton and the Government Tourist Officer and Supervising officer of the Government Chalet, James Boyce... "Boyce was present at the Chalet on 14 March to witness the completion of the new wing's foundations ...when he returned in June he found the wing approaching completion and that '... the billiard table was expected to reach the Chalet during the week'. The table possibly came second-hand from the Oriental Hotel, Bright. When visiting in March, Boyce had heard from a Mr Tewksbury 'that he is disposing of those at the Oriental Hotel so that if the Public Works Department is going to provide the table for the Chalet it might be possible to pick one up cheap from the Hotel'. It's reasonable that the Chalet did acquire one of the second-hand tables in 1914 and, and changed over to a new model in the 1930s. Three billiard tables remain in the Chalet Billiard Room today; one full sized table and two smaller tables, one perhaps a pool table. The full-sized table was made by the well-known billiard table manufacturers Alcock, Thomson & Taylor, who adopted this name when they merged their billiard businesses in January 1930. Henry Upton Alcock had initially established the business in Fitzroy in the mid-1850's and the table at the Chalet resembles the 'Squatter's Favourite' model that Alcock first produced in the nineteenth century from Australian timbers. this style of table was installed in Melbourne's Parliament buildings, several prestigious clubs as well as hotels and houses."(Pg 13-14. This item was used at The Men's Club Orbost in Livingstone Street, Orbost.This item is representative of the leisure activities of people during the nineteenth century and early 20th century. The Orbost Men's Club no longer exists. It is also significant as being associated with the history of Australia's leading manufacturer of billiard tables, Alcock of Melbourne who were established in 1854 and are still in business today.Billiard table iron; a heavy iron of cast metal. This has a large, rectangular face with attached, cast metal handle. This was used for pressing the cloth of a billiards table. The Flinders Street extension building opened for use in 1917 after relocating from Australia Wharf. Seafarer playing snooker in the Billiard Room.This photograph shows that the room marked "Billiard Room" in gold lettering on the door, was once used exclusively for that purpose, although no longer. Billiards was once a very popular pastime for visiting seafarers. The billiard table has long since gone and the room is now used as a karaoke and music room. Discovered in 2003 when owner, Ken Gray, of Tatura, noticed the covering paper peeling away on the wall of a galvanised iron shed on his property. He believed the shed was bought at the internment camp 4 auction conducted by the Commonwealth Government in the early 1950's and transported to the property which he now owns.Cartoon like painting depicting men (army garrison soldiers) playing billiards. This is a silk picture woven by the highly acclaimed French jacquard loom woven tapestry maker Neyret Freres. The scene is derived from a painting by Spanish artist Mariano Alonzo Perez (1853-1930). This style of weaving is referred to as a Stevengraph, named for their original creator, Thomas Stevens (1828-1888), a 19th century weaver from Coventry, England. Neyret Freres began manufacturing textiles in 1823, and are still in operation today. Silk embroidery in a decorative gilt frame. The scene depicts a Victorian era billiards room. An ornate billiard table is at the centre of the image. At the near end of the table, two men are crouching down and leaning over the table, examining billiard balls while holding billiard cues in their left hands. At the far end of the table, a woman is sitting on the corner of the billiard table while holding a billiard cue in her left hand, in an intimate face to face pose with a man standing behind the billiard table. All figures are depicted in Victorian era aristocratic dress. The bottom right corner of the images features the signature 'D'A. PEREZ'. Three small stickers for Gibson's Auctioneers are attached to the back of the artwork, as well as a sticker referencing the framer of the work and a shipping sticker for International Art Services. Two d-rings and a wire fitting are attached to the back of the artwork for hanging.

On 20th August, 1909 the Laanecoorie Weir broke away and released 18.3 million cubic metres of water through the opening and causing severe damage to all towns downstream. At Newbridge, Petersen's bakery collapsed and Simpson's Store and Hotel flooded to the roof. The billiard table was later found in a tree five miles down the Loddon near Learmonth.
