Cr William Howieson of the Borough of Kew was also a member of the Kew Bowling Club (1880-1998). The club was located in Wellington Street as part of a complex that included the Kew Recreation Hall. In 1998 the Club merged with Auburn Heights Bowling Club. The trophy has a broken handle and a clear break in the crystal container.This is the earliest example of a trophy deriving from the Kew Bowling Club in our collection. It was awarded to a noted civic figure in local government in Kew. In 1937 the Moffitt family lived at 8 Rosemont Street, Surrey Hills, having lived in Station Street, Box Hill prior to Surrey Hills. Mr Frank Moffitt was a green keeper. Sculptor John Kendrick Blogg of Albany Crescent, a member of the Surrey Hills Bowling Club, carved many such trophies which included eucalypt leaves and presented them to the Surrey Hills Bowling Club as trophies. Mary Ethel Rae was Frank Moffitt's wife. Frank's daughter Beryl and son-in-law Wes Lobb, were Cub Leaders in Camberwell North.A carved trophy for the S.H.B.C. Organisations that Dorothy Anderson belonged to included many items to represent their clubs eg. badges, spoons, activities eg. crocheting. Dorothy lived in Tawonga indicating that those clubs existed in the town/area and were typical of regional areas of the time. These items were the property of Tawonga Citizen, Mrs Dorothy Anderson, who passed away in 2014, aged 90 years. She belonged to local clubs which existed in the area and acquired memorabilia belonging to those clubs and activities thus giving an insight into the life of women in regional towns.
