Ticket issued by the Victorian Railways that allowed the passenger to do a round trip from Brighton Beach to St Kilda via the Electric Street railway or tramway and then return using a train via Flinders St station. The Association of Railway Enthusiasts, a Melbourne based group, ran its first tour to Ballarat on 23 July 1961 and its last tour on 6 May 2023 also to Ballarat to visit the Museum. The group has subsequently ceased to function. The booking form provides details of the tour and times. The two tickets were used by participants as souvenirs of the day which included a lunch pack. Following the closure of the St Kilda Brighton Electric Street Railway (tramway), the Victorian Railways continued to sell through rail and bus tickets from Flinders St Station. This set of 10 are samples of these issued by the various booking offices or wiindows at Flinders St station. Following the complete closure of the St Kilda - Brighton Electric street railway (tramway) in 1959, the Brighton St Kilda Bus lines operated a service under a contract with the Victorian Railways with a joint ticketting arrangement. These tickets are weekly tickets for various locations along the former tramway. Those tickets available for Melbourne have the conditions of travel on the rear. The two vertical stripes indicated that the ticket was available to pass through the gates at Flinders St or Spencer St, while the large cross indicated to a ticket checker that the ticket was not available beyond St Kilda station or to pass through a set of gates. All printed on a off white card. The Brighton - St Kilda Bus lines could issue tickets, as an agent, from St Kilda Railway Station to Melbourne on behalf of the Victorian Railways. These dated tickets represent a sample of these. A group of tickets would be issued to each driver for the day who would issue them in order from his ticket tray or kit. "Surburban tickets of the Victorian Railways - H K Atkinson" published 1991 notes on page 123 "Edmondson tickets issued from trams were held in small pouches in the conductor's bag and were punched with a special date punch (ie. 1 to 31) to denote the day of issue." It is thought that the month would have been used as well, otherwise people could recycle tickets for each day of the month. No punch for these yet seen by the Museum. These tickets were a replacement for the MetroCard Off Peaks introduced in 1980. However, the times of availability were now altered to being valid from 9am weekdays, but more importantly, could be used for return rail travel anytime that day. Like the MetroCards, they also allowed unlimited MMTB tram and bus travel within the Flinders, Spencer, Latrobe, William, Victoria and Spring Streets grid. No conditions were printed on the rear of these tickets. Compiled by the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co. head office, to record the various check tickets issued at Car Houses or depots from 23/12/1898 to 1914. Has an index at the front and for each car house gives a sample of the check ticket, the date of order, individual numbers, number of tickets, total numbers and advertisements on the rear. Samples of the rear of each check with an advertisement on the rear included. Lists the car houses and the color of the check. This is a ticket dating press which was used at Railway Stations to date and validate passenger tickets. This looks like those made by the company - Edmondson - and used all over the world. There is, however, no maker's mark or stamp on this machine.This tickets press was most likely used at Portland Railway Station.Black, metal cylindrical object. The bottom of the object has a base with a larger diameter than the main cylinder. Along the length on one side of the cylinder is a hinged opening. The flips upwards and sits on top of the cylinder when open. Inside are 3 brass spools on which there is wound black ribbon.
