There is a brief ...Surrey Panels was started by Maurice Dalzell (Maurie) Costello (1918-2000) in 1948, soon after the first Holden was released. Maurie later brought his sons Alan, Robert and Brian into the business. F H Stevens Motors started in North Balwyn at a similar time and in 1982 was taken over by the Costello brothers, with Robert as General Manager. Members of the Costello family have been around the Surrey Hills area for many decades. Maurie’s parents Thomas Maurice and Mabel Isabel Costello lived at 43 Box Hill Crescent, Mont Albert North. Thomas was a cattle dealer and related to the Costellos of Costello’s Jersey Dairy (demolished) in Mont Albert Road, Balwyn. Prior to starting the business Maurie is listed as a market gardener living with his parents in Box Hill Crescent. He married Mavis Jean Guillerme in 1942. Surrey Motors and Surrey Panels are well known businesses serving the Surrey Hills community for decades.A small booklet, yellow in colour, designed to fit in the glove box of a car. It is stapled on the spine in 2 places and consists of 12 pages. Some pages are designed for the owner to fill in with their personal details. There is advice regarding emergency phone calls, what to do in the event of an accident, towing, 'at fault' information, insurance, location and services of Surrey Panels and F H Stevens Motors. There is a brief history of these linked businesses. Stevens ...Frederick Henry Stevens (1861 - 22/1/1931) Frederick was the son of Thomas and Margaret Wiseman. He was a cooper at the Kent Brewery Company in Bendigo. He was an early member of the City Fire Brigade and was their lieutenant in 1886 when the brigade presented him with a crockery set to mark the occasion of his recent marriage to Elizabeth Jane Hills. He competed successfully in various fire brigade competitions. When he died at the age of 69 he was living in Northcote.Two photographs of F. H. Stevens in uniform of the Bendigo Fire Squad, undated. The Ballarat School of Mines was the first School of Mines in Australia. It is a predecessor institution of Federation University Australia.Hard coveredboob with leather spine and corners. The minites of the Ballarat School of Mines Council are handwrittten on the 25 March 1910 "... It was resolved that in the event of the Department of Forestry offering 250 pounds per annum for the instruction of their students at Creswick in Chemistry, Botany, Physics and Surveying that it be accepted ..." lined pages. 26 November 1909 "..It was decided to accept with thanks an offer of a flagpole and flag made by Mr W. Coltman through the student association. Mr Clegg to be consulted as to its erection. ..." 25 August 1916 "... A very cordial welcome was extended to Colonel Bolton, who was present for the first time since his return from Gallipoli. ... " 25 July 1910 "... A letter was received from the staff in reference to Mr Oddie's system of ventilation which he wishes introduced into the School. It was decided to postpone the matter for consideration when funds are available, ..." "... At Colonel Bolton's suggestion, it was decided to inform the Sectretary of the Returned Soldiers Association that applications from returned soldiers for free instruction at this School would be favorably considered, and that it would be in the best interests of the movement if applications for admission were received through the Association. ... that Councillors T. Honour Board, Melbourne Harbour Trust
Belonged to the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commissionersarge, wooden, rectangular "Roll of Honour" board for the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commissioners. It was their honourary board for employees who went to the 1st World War. comprised of seven panels with names of people carved into them. The centre panel has "in Memorium' in brass lettering and is raised out from the three panels which flank it on either side. The main lettering across the top of the board is made from brass, and is attached to the wood. A circular brass crest is featured in the centre top of the board, which is flanked by carved gum leaves and nuts.
