In 1932 the call was put out to the ABC to start a military band. The band’s task was to record music to play on air four times a week, and to perform live concerts for the public. By November 1933 a band was put together with 40 musicians from around Australia. The band was initially conducted by Captain H. E. Adkins, Director of the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, London. After the tour, Adkins returned to his position at Kneller Hall, and Stephen Yorke, a retired bandmaster of the Gloucestershire Regiment, was brought out to Australia to become the permanent director and conductor of the band, which he did until the band closed in 1951. During the band’s 17 year history they presented a sizable program of music. Their final concert received a standing ovation from its audience of 1500, with a teary-eyed Yorke. 33 parts Concert Band Instrumentation Quick March Key Signature: Eb Major Instrumentation: Piccolo in Db Flute (piccolo in C) Oboes Eb Clarinet Solo or 1st Bb Clarinet 2nd Bb Clarinet 3rd Bb Clarinet Eb Alto Clarinet 2nd Eb Alto Clarinet Bb Bass Clarinet Bassoons 1st Eb Alto Saxophone BB Tenor Saxophone Eb Baritone Saxophone Bb Bass Saxophone (Bb Bass) 1st Horn in Eb (Alto) 2nd Horn in Eb (Alto) 3rd Horns in Eb Alto 4th Horns in Eb (Alto) 1st Horn in F 2nd Horn in F 3rd Horns in F 4th Horns in F Solo for 1st Bb Cornet 2nd Bb Cornet 3rd Bb Cornet 1st & 2nd Bb Trumpets 1st Trombone (Bass Clef) 2nd Trombone (Bass Clef) 3rd Trombone (Bass Clef) Baritone (Treble Clef) Baritone (Bass Clef) (Euphonium) Basses (Tuba) DrumsOn envelope: QM165, ...g Wreck from Georgia Tech (arr. The recipient of this card, Jessie Bonnett was born in Allansford in 1897. She spent her life on the family farm at Mepunga with her brothers Jack and George. She died in 1990 and her scrapbook came into the collection of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society through her relative, Mary O’Callaghan. Nothing is known of Ada Lawlor. This card has social significance and interest showing the communication between people in an earlier age. Postcards were commonly used to convey a short message between friends. This is a postcard with an image of the ship ‘Georgia’ on the front and a letter from Nullawarre on the back. There is a stamp from the Gray’s Colosseum Stationers and a symbol, ‘F & J’ on the back. The Argus in November 1924 reported the purchase of Elsinore by Trinity Grammar School. "The council of Trinity Grammar School, Kew, has purchased Elsinore, the residence of the late Mr. V. J. Saddler, at the corner of Wellington street, Stanley street, and Charles street, Kew, which adjoins the property recently purchased from Mr. J. Henning Thompson (known as 'Trinity Lodge), and is directly opposite the Headmaster's house and main school grounds. This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society. The central tower of Roberts House (originally 'Elsinore'), Wellington Street, Kew.
