The building is the former Greenvale State School No. 890. Although a school had been functioning at Greenvale since 1870. This is a photo of the school building that was renovated in 1926. At weekends the building was often used for family gatherings and social functions in the district. As the area became developed and changed from a country settlement to a suburb, the school was relocated to a new building closer to the new housing development. The existing building became a community centre. 'Dunhelen' is situated on the Mickleham Road at Greenvale. The rear of the homestead was constructed in the 1850's and the original owners were Richard and George Sinclair Brodie who emigrated from Scotland.A coloured photograph of part of a porchway of a house. James Waylett is thought to have built and settled in the cottage in Greenvale in the 1850s. Other schools competing were Greenvale, Mickleham, Craigieburn, Broadmeadows Yuroke and Tullamarine. The Bulla Primary School was a semi-rural school in the Bulla township which was established in 1872. It was one of the first government schools to open in the district and continued to function for the following 124 years until December 1996 when the State Government closed the school. After that date, Bulla children were bused to schools in either Sunbury or Greenvale. In 1949 the Progress Bus Company was contracted to take students who were attending High, Technical or non-government schools, from Sunbury to Essendon. The company later transported people employed at the Asylum and Greenvale Sanatorium to and from Essendon and Melbourne.
