Over 150 years the hospital has been an imposing building and central part of the Warrnambool community. This postcard is a photograph of a section of a large tapestry , 1.8m x 1.9m, which hangs in the foyer of the South West Health Care. This tapestry was funded by the Geoff and Helen Handbury Foundation. It was woven at the Australian Tapestry Workshop, South Melbourne. The postcard “Concerning the Wading Birds of Warrnambool Wetlands” brings to a wider audience, the work of John Wolesley as well as the craftsmanship of the weavers in presenting his original watercolor in a different medium. The tapestry itself was commissioned by Warrnambool Base Hospital.Background is in muted shades of blue and browns with larger birds in foreground and smaller ones in the background. The texture of the tapestry is clearly visible. Mayday Hills Mental Hospital was originally constructed in 1864 under the name of the Beechworth Lunatic Asylum. It was built for locals in need of help who were kept in the local gaol. In its first decade, the residents of the hospital were used as menial labourers but over time, as mental healthcare progressed, were cared for in more nuanced ways. This site became a training hospital for nurses in the 1960's. Eventually, mental health patients were moved to other care facilities and Mayday Hills was operating as a geriatric care facility. It was closed in 1995, after which the buildings and their grounds were purchased to La Trobe University to be used as a campus. The university sold the site in 2011 to private ownership. The ECG trimmer was used to trim these strips into individual lead recordings and reconfigured on one page. This booklet was produced by the 3 YB radio station in Warrnambool as a fund raiser for the Warrnambool Hospital. The three people on the front cover are: Christine Benbow, Oscar Henry and Ken Warne. The recipes in this booklet were sent into the radio program "Piano Time". The radio station 3 YB began in January 1936. Its origins were in the mobile van unit established by Ballarat radio announcer Jack Young. Today 3YB is operated by ACE Radio. The Warrnambool Hospital was established in 1854 as the Warrnambool and District Hospital and Benevolent Asylum and is today known as South West Healthcare Warrnambool Campus. This booklet is of some interest as an example of the cookery books produced in the mid 20th century by 3 YB Warrnambool.This is a soft covered booklet of 34 pages. The back cover and possibly some pages are missing and the front cover is loose. The booklet was bound with metal staples but now has a plastic clip. Button distributed to and worn by Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) members to promote safe movement of patients to reduce workplace injury. The Australian Nursing Federation Victorian Branch implemented the 'No Lifting' (now 'safe patient handling') policy in March 1998. The aim of the policy was to introduce in Victorian healthcare settings an approach to patient handling whereby the manual lifting of patients would be eliminated or minimised wherever possible. This Branch policy and strategies to implement it were a response to high incidence of back pain and workplace injury amongst nurses. The 'No Lifting' policy was accompanied by various conferences and expos to discuss harm minimisation strategies throughout 1998-2009, suggesting this badge is from this period.Circular red, black and white plastic badge.
