At a special meeting of the Society on 5 May 1996 the resolution was passed to restore the relevant phrase to the set of articles. The society became incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Act of 1938. The number in the register is 23 109. All 27 pages have been scanned. The 1944 IPS Memorandum and Articles of Association was based on the English translation of the IPS founding constitution (1916). The Certificate of Incorporation was an important step in the progress and establishment of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society as it was then recognised as a legal entity. A small booklet with a buff coloured thin cardboard cover with thirty two inside pages. Prior to this there was a Ladies' Committee formed in 1944 which organised social events. Sia Andrews, Maria Dellas and Helen Vlass were the first women to be elected to the executive committee in 1985. In 1991, in the Society's 75th year, Sia Andrews became the first female president. The club's badge above the main... written for the Ithacan Philanthropic Society which ...The booklet is the first constitution written for the Ithacan Philanthropic Society which was established in October 1916 in Melbourne. Although the constitution was written with the formation of the club it was not printed in this format until 1927 when there was a printing press in Sydney which was able to print material in the Greek language. The back pages of the booklet have listed the names of committee members when the club began in 1916 and the 1927 committee members. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society was established in 1916 and it is still a functioning organization today with over 400 members of Ithacan descent. Over the years it has supported many worthy causes both in Australia and Ithaca. To keep abreast of the times its constitution has changed to reflect its membership. A small booklet with a cream cover with the information in Greek and printed in black. The information inside is also written in Greek as the booklet was the original constitution of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. The club's badge above the main heading depicts an episode in the Odyesseus legend showing him tied to his ship's mast to avoid being lured by the sirens as his ship is being rowed past their island. -

There is blue printed marbled paper on the front and back inside covers and blue and pink marbling around the edges of the pages. A loose green cloth cover is folded over the book. Ithacan Philanthropic Society Ladies Auxiliary Administrative ...The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society 'The Ulysses' was formed in 1944 to raise funds for the Ithacan War Sufferers patriotic Fund. The women were also active raising money for the war effort and sending clothing parcels to Ithaca. After the war the Ladies' Auxiliary directed its efforts to the organisation of social functions many of which raised funds for various philanthropic purposes. In 1985 the Ladies' Auxiliary ceased operation as women were able to be nominated for election to the Executive Committee. Since then women have been continuously been voted members of the executive committee. A social committee, made up of men and women, coordinates social functions.The Ladies' Auxiliary played an important role in providing a social outlet for women to play an active role in the many club's activities over the years. It helped to pave the way for other similar women's groups within the Greek and other migrant communities. The minute book is a record of meetings conducted from 17th August 1949 to 19th October 1955. A foolscap size bound minute book with a maroon binding on the spine and green and black marbled paper on the front and back cover covers. On the front cover there is a white stick-on label with a navy blue border and writing On the inside front and back covers there is a blue and white patterned marbled paper.
