Dr. Koadlow ...On the 2nd of December 1978, the official opening of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria's new headquarters, Action House, was held in conjunction with the inaugural Christmas fete. Action House was located on the grounds of the Royal Talbot Hospital in Kew. In this photo, Cr John H Gervasoni (1929-1992), Mayor of Kew, addresses the crowd the veranda of Action House. Seated behind him are Dr Leslie Koadlow AO (1920-2006) and Mrs Kathleen Gervasoni, Mayoress of Kew, among others (partially obscured). An article pertaining to the event (along with several other photos) appears on page 1 (the cover page) and page 3 of the Vol. 11, December 1978 issue of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria's quarterly newsletter, News Review. In the article, it is reported that the Mayor, Cr. Gervasoni, unveiled the plaque and officially opened Action House, while the Mayoress, Mrs. Gervasoni, officially opened the fete and Christmas Family Fun Day. My early fascination with maps corresponded to early mark making inspired by maps, topography, legends and aerial depictions. This developed into the use of a bold colour palette often used by map makers to delineate sections, contours and geology. Over time I experimented with a range of techniques and enjoy pushing expected techniques and materials to their limits. Often referred to as having a natural aesthetic, my works use various media, most often paint, textiles and photography. Lisa J. The E.J. Tippett Library is named after the late E.J. Tippett who was a long time President of the Ballarat School of Mines Council, and library advocate. In February 1985, the first sod for the new SMB Campus building was turned by the Minister for Planning and the Environment, the Hon. Evan Walker, M.P. The overall responsibility for the building rested with the Public Works Department in association with the SMB Campus architect, Ewan Jones & Associates and the builder, S. J. Weir Pty. Ltd. They put together the facility that is both functional and of a style that merges with the surrounding architecture. The new building was opened on 04 July 1986 by Governor of Victoria, His Excellency Dr Davis McCaughey.E.J. The bulk of World War One soldiers from Koroit were Protestant. It was a traumatic and divisive time for the Koroit Community based on religion, which was put behind them after the conclusion of the war. The Koroit War Memorial was not built until 1928. HONOR AVENUE AT KOROIT. Last year one side of Albert-street, Koroit was planted with plane trees, with strong guards, in honor of the men who had gone to the front from Koroit and district. The trees were planted rather late in the season, but fortunately there were only two failures, and the remainder are now higher than the guards. This year, the committee appointed decided to do the work earlier, and the King's birthday was set apart for it. On Saturday afternoon, states our correspondent; a lot of the preliminary work was done and on Monday some 30 residents assembled and went to work and by tea time the whole of the 52 trees and the guards were finished. There are 52 trees on each side of the street planted at intervals of 15 yards so that the avenue is about 800 yards long, running from the Botanical Gardens to the Lake Bank, and in a few years, when the trees are well grown, there will the a magnificent avenue. The weather was beautiful, and during the afternoon number of ladies were present. The ladies brought baskets of good things, and afternoon tea was provided at Mr. W. J. Stevenson's residence, which is situated about mid-way in the avenue. A suggestion has been made that the name of the street should be changed to "Anzac Avenue."' (Warrnambool Standard, 6 June 1918.) St James Anglican Church Bowning was built c.1878. Bowning is one of Australia's earliest settlements, this village is home to a renewed and growing community. This memorial was erected by the residents of Apollo Bay and District in 1922.Colour photograph of the War Memorial at Apollo Bay, that features a scuplture of an Australian soldier with slouch hat and holding a rifle. It includes a list of those who served during World War One and World War Two. A characteristic figurative monument, the memorial comprises a single standing soldier, looking down the main street, a top a polished granite pedestal with honour roll set on a huge rock faced granite block.The memorial is fenced by heavy set square concrete bollards supporting heavy gauge chain between each. tBuilt by J. Wilson & Co. of Bendigo, the Apollo Bay Memorial depicts the lone soldier, a typical symbol of the sentiments of communities who had lost faith in heroism and had learnt to recognise the level of loss caused by war amongst ordinary volunteers. Radio Station 3LO broadcast the National Anthem at the prearranged time of 2.00 pm and the announcer, in a Melbourne studio, read an address prepared by James Sexton. The gathering listened to the broadcast on a six-valve radio set, loaned by Mr J. James.
