The Keilor Plains Region is one of the most archaeologically significant landscapes in Victoria. The area provides some of the oldest evidence of human occupation in Australia and preserves a rare combination of Pleistocene terraces, stone artefacts, and cultural sites. The St Albans Community Youth Club began in the early 1950s, operating out of a small tin shed on Main Road East. This was during the explosive post‑war population boom, when St Albans lacked basic services such as sports clubs, libraries, and youth facilities. As membership grew, the original shed was replaced with a recycled Quonset Army Hut, a curved steel structure typical of post‑war surplus buildings. The hut was adapted by volunteers and became the heart of the centre. The most significant phase in the settlement of St. Albans occurred in the early 1900s when the Closer Settlement board subdivided Overnewton Estate into blocks of 200 to 300 acres and offered these for selection. This attracted the new pioneers' families to the district, such as the McAuleys, Boyds, Andersons, Stevens, Colemans, Griffiths, McRaes, King and others to acquire land along Taylors Road and in the Western part of St. Albans through to Sydenham.The stories in this document are about the families who are directly connected to the above era or came somewhat later, but all have contributed to the development of community. The St Albans Youth Club football team refers to the junior football competition that grew out of the St. Albans Community Youth Club in the 1950s–60s. It was not a formal senior club like St. Albans Saints (soccer) or St. Albans Football Club (AFL), but a local youth sporting program that helped launch organised junior football in the suburb. The clearest historical reference comes from Les Cameron’s account of growing up in St. Albans in the 1950s–60s. He states that the St. Albans Community Youth Club was central to community life and it "Nurtured a variety of other groups, including the junior football competition.”The St. Albans Community Youth Club was central to community life in St. Albans from the post‑war population boom of 1950's and onwards. These photographs and documents are items collected at the event marking the handover of Pino Calati’s artwork from the St Albans Community Youth Club to Brimbank City Council on the 7th August 2026. These paintings were found behind the stairs at The Tin Shed, Errington Reserve, Main Road East, St. Albans. The paintings were then professionally restored and then donated to the Brimbank City Council on the 7th August 2028 by the St. Albans Community Youth Club.
