In 1900, ownership of the post office had been transferred to the new Commonwealth Government. In the first decade of the twenty-first century, the police station and court house were offered for sale. They were subsequently purchased and renovated by the City of Boroondara. The Kew Historical Society raised over $5000,000 as a contribution to the restoration.Kew Police Station at left and Kew Court House at right. ... Kew Historical Society mounted a community campaign to raise funds from the community for its preservation, with the support of the City of Boroondara. The funds raised by the Society were $500,000, which contributed to the buildings purchase and restoration. The community campaign was an exemplary example of heritage in action. The Queen Anne revival style employed by the Department of Public Works architects, favoured the use of red brick highlighted by stucco. The painted white stucco is not the original colour.
