Arthur Walstab (1844-1899) was a member of the Brighton Council representing the South Ward from 1877 until his death. He served for one year as Mayor of the Borough of Brighton in 1883 and then as Mayor of the Town of Brighton in 1890, 1891 and 1894. He represented Brighton on the Metropolitan Board of Works for five years. Manufactured by P Blashki and Sons, this mayoral chain is made of Stirling silver with a 22ct gold plate finish. The chain consists of 10 links at the back of the chain joined by two shoulder bars with 12 links on the inside front section and the balance of 14 links either side of the coat of arts. Each link is joined by curb chain. Murray Comrie Collection. Information written by Murray Comrie: John Shields Simpson was born in Scotland in 1831, came to Victoria in 1853 and after mining for a time took up land at what was later to be the Nick O'Time Lead at Poseidon. He took up a store at Newbridge and in 1905 built a hotel alongside the store. Both were severely damaged in floods of the Loddon River in 1909. He was elected to the Tarnagulla Borough Council in 1882 and retained his seat until 1915 when he resigned. He was Mayor of the Borough on five occasions. Murray Comrie Collection. George Minto (b.1824 in Harwick, Scotland) was engineer at the Flour Mill in Tarnagulla, was Mayor of Tarnagulla Borough Council for a time and was engineer of the Shire of Marong for twenty years. For 13 years he occupied the position of surveyor to the Bendigo City Council. In his later life he lived in Kangaroo Flat. Whilst living there, on the 28th November 1914, he died, aged 90 and a half years. This photograph is a reasonable image created from a historic news source (unknown).
