Sir John McIntyre (1832-1904) was a key figure in the Bendigo goldfields, a pharmacy owner, a prominent mining investor, and a leader in local government. McIntyre served on the Sandhurst Municipal Council (starting in 1859) and held the position of Mayor of the Borough of Sandhurst for six consecutive years (1863–1868), a period coinciding with the city’s early development and significant gold production. During his time as Mayor, he hosted the Prince of Wales (Duke of Edinburgh) visit in 1867, which featured a famous, albeit disastrous, fireworks display.Illuminated Address given to John McIntyre Esquire for his time in the Bendigo City Council in the years 1859 - 1860 - 1862 and Mayor of the Borough of Sandhurst: 1863, 1864, 1865, 1866, 1867, 1868. Manufactured by P Blashki and Sons, this mayoral chain is made of Stirling silver with a 22ct gold plate finish. The chain consists of 10 links at the back of the chain joined by two shoulder bars with 12 links on the inside front section and the balance of 14 links either side of the coat of arts. Each link is joined by curb chain. Arthur Walstab (1844-1899) was a member of the Brighton Council representing the South Ward from 1877 until his death. He served for one year as Mayor of the Borough of Brighton in 1883 and then as Mayor of the Town of Brighton in 1890, 1891 and 1894. He represented Brighton on the Metropolitan Board of Works for five years. Murray Comrie Collection. Information written by Murray Comrie: John Shields Simpson was born in Scotland in 1831, came to Victoria in 1853 and after mining for a time took up land at what was later to be the Nick O'Time Lead at Poseidon. He took up a store at Newbridge and in 1905 built a hotel alongside the store. Both were severely damaged in floods of the Loddon River in 1909. He was elected to the Tarnagulla Borough Council in 1882 and retained his seat until 1915 when he resigned. He was Mayor of the Borough on five occasions.
