In 1903 the oxyacetylene welding process was developed. Around the same time, new cryogenic air separation processes, based on work undertaken by Carl von Linde and others, replaced the barium oxide process. This paved the way for larger scale and more efficient production. British Oxygen Company, [1905 to 1969] was formally BRIN'S Oxygen Company Ltd from 1886 to 1905. In 1969 it became BOC. The loom was made by John Charles Mann in the late 1920s-early 1930s for Lilian Joyce Mann. Mr Mann enjoyed woodwork. He died in 1945. Ms Mann was very interested in crafts and owned a shop in Jacob Street which sold handmade soft toys and items woven from the loom, for example table mats. The shop was later bought out by Henry Jacobs and later became Myer. Ms Mann died on the 17th July 2007. Consisting of a 36 page book, printed with many photographs, two tones (black and grey) printed in grey and black ink illustrating the equipment that was made by The Electric Railway Improvement Co. of Cleveland Ohio, USA. Covers in addition to the 36 pages, are on the outside, marbled paper, bluish grey, with embossed dark blue titles and company logo (ERICO), with light blue bands and a photograph of a rail based welding machine on the front cover. Stapled with three staples. On page 2, has been over stamped in purple ink, the name and address of the Australasian representative, "Charles Wright". Betty Collier (nee Thege) was a student of the Ballarat Technical Art School, and lectured in Sculpture at the University of Ballarat, both predecessor institutions of Federation University Australia. This work was requested for the collection by Brian McLennan. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. No. 1 Pipeline heads down the mountain from McKay Power Station (the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme) and can be seen from the Falls Creek Rd.. The pipeline is 1635m long. It was built on the mountain rather than as a tunnel inside the mountain - "It was argued that a pressure pipeline on the surface, while not actually cheaper than the tunnel could possibly save one year in construction time.'The document is a report on the welding involved on the No. 1 pipeline. J. M. Scott was the welding inspector for the SECV on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme.
