Accession contained several newspaper clippings covering a range of topics. There are two letters from the Gembrook Railway League directed to the Clematis Progress Association, copies of petitions and 33 copies of various parts of a proposed roundabout at Belgrave-Gembrook Road and Wellington Rd opposite Paradise Hotel. There are lso 5 laminated copies of "What,When,Where,Who" by Gus Ryberg, there are also 3 un-laminated copies of the same. There is also a circular headed "Conversion of the Ferntree Gully to Gembrook Railway" complied and issued by the Dandenong Ranges Combined Progress Association. Date Range of items 1936-1984. The man in the photograph is known to have been a councillor in the Shire of Sherbrooke. This shire is no longer in existence. He was also Publican of the Paradise Hotel in Clematis, now known as The Paradise Valley Hotel. John Waghorn was an amateur historian, an authority on the history of Victoria's postal services. He could tell you how mail was delivered in the high country in the 1880s, where the town of Gobur was, or when the overland Melbourne-Sydney mail service began. He admitted that his hobby has got a little out of hand. He had 30 filing cabinets, and indexes of more than 70,000 postal workers over the past 160 years crammed into three rooms at his home.
