This 1860s book of classic fiction was deemed suitable as a second prize to a student of Latin, Daniel B Sellers. Sellers was a student at the National School in Warrnambool and received this prize in December 1861.The book is locally significant for its role in the education of local students. The National School of Warrnambool was part of the early history of the city and connected to the access to, and growth of, education in Warrnambool. Book, brown covers, embossed with borders and patterns and gilt decoration and titles. The book includes illustrations. Handwritten inscription on the front paste-down page. The opposite page has a stamped and a handwritten inscription. The book was presented as a prize to a Latin student at the National School, Warrnambool in 1861. The annual picnic has been an important social event for the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. The first picnic was held on 24 March 1918 at a picnic ground in South Morang. The races for all age groups are a popular feature of the day's entertainment. In this photograph seven young men are preparing to participate in the men's race.A black and white photograph with a white header and footer of twelve men in an open area. The photograph was taken at an Ithacan Philanthropic Society annual picnic sometime in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Races were always a feature at the annual picnic. In those early most families travelled to the picnic ground in hired furniture vans. The annual picnic is still held today in February of each year. Pictured standing L-R: ? This photograph shows spectators watching the Orbost Races on the flat in 1899. Some of the earliest horse races were held on a course in a paddock belonging to Mr James Cowell at Jarrahmond. For a long time horse races were part of the Marlo Picnic Races.
