The Antimony mine, set on top of a hill, was originally the centre for Ringwood development. The centre was relocated to the west around Ringwood station when the railway was built.View of the Ringwood Antimony Mine, buildings and headframe. A chimney from a smelter can be seen on the LHS.

Between 1869 and 1892, the Ringwood antimony mines produced more than 3,500 tons of antimony ore, which represented bout 15 per cent of Victoria's antimony production for that period. Much greater amounts were later taken from the mines at Costerfield and the Ringwood mines lapsed into obscurity. Most of the information in this booklet has been obtained from published and unpublished Geological Survey and Mines Department reports and Lease Records. (See full list of references included).

Obituary - Ringwood Mail 29/9/1938The late John Wilson was one of the few remaining old pioneers of Ringwood ... passed away at his residence, "The Mines", Ringwood East (Wilson Street) at the age of 80 years. He was, in the early years, associated with the antimony mine ... highly respected and esteemed throughout the district.

The opening of casualty facilities was welcomed by locals as previously Box Hill Hospital catered for the entre area. (September October 1987) EASTLAND - Opened October 1967. Built on a former football oval. Now about to undergo major extensions to cater for Ringwood's population growth into the 21st Century. November December 1987 CIVIC CENTRE - Built on the site of a former antimony mine behind the council offices. Now the venue for many activities and a local point for Ringwood's Cultural Life.

The newspaper clipping caption is incorrect. The Club Hotel featured in the article was located on the north side of Mount Dandenong Road. It was destroyed by fire in 1890 prior to re-opening later on the south side where it operated until sale and demolition in 2020 to make way for a retirement village. At that time the Club Hotel in Mt Dandenong Road, East Ringwood was owned by a George Wiggin. There were antimony mines operating nearby. The present-day Club Hotel is on this site.

Single page handwritten notes by unknown author (circa 1950) briefly outlining family history of William and James Smith in Ringwood from 1868 to 1920. Page ends mid-sentence however no trace of subsequent page/s. Further information on William and James Smith and family (expanding on these notes?), is contained in the book " A History of Croydon - Second Volume" by Muriel McGivern (pages 170-176).
