Embarked for Egypt 2/2/1915 and for Gallipoli on 12/4/1915. He was WIA 29/8/1915 with GSW to left leg and transferred to England where his left leg was amputated. The Australian Service Medal 1975 - with Middle East clasp was issued to RAN service members for deployment to the North West Indian Ocean, 1st September 1980 to 31 July 1986.
