The Lillian Horner Memorial Prize was awarded to Miss Daisy Paddock for distinguished work as an infant teacher. Lillian Horner was a pioneer in infant teaching. She was born in May 1873 and died in February 1938. She encouraged mothers to interest themselves directly in the work of her infant grades so laid the foundations for the first Mother's Club. An annual prize of books was given to the infant teacher adjudged most worthy in a school under the Education Department, Victoria. to perpetuate her memory. In 1956 Daisy Paddock from Ringwood S.S.2997 won the prize. The books were The First Year in School by E.R. Boyce, The Merry-go-round by James Jeeves, One Little Boy by Julian Press, The Fairy Green by Rose Fyleman and Lavenders Blue,A Book of Nursery Rhymes by Kathleen Lines.
