In May 1987, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), formerly the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV), held a book launch to help promote Valerie Sayce (AFV physiotherapist) and Ian Fraser's new book, 'Exercise Beats Arthritis'. The book launch was the key event in launching that year's National Arthritis Week (NAW). In this photo, authors Valerie Sayce and Ian Fraser pose for a photo with Norm and Libby, characters from the federal government's “Life. Be In It" health promotion campaign. A similar photo (taken from a slightly different angle) appears on page 3 of the No 44, June 1987 issue of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's quarterly newsletter, News Review. It accompanies an article on the book launch and other National Arthritis Week activities held that year. In 1989, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), formerly the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria RAAV), released a video titled, "Fighting Arthritis". The video promotes the Foundation's Arthritis Self Help Course and its Water Exercise Program, and was available for sale or for loan by community groups. The video launch was held on the bowling green at Parliament House, Victoria, at the start of the bowling season. The theme for the 1996 National Arthritis Week (NAW) was "Ring the Bells for Arthritis", with the Glen Iris Handbell Ringers performing at the launch. There was a Joint Walk along Southgate, beside the Yarra River in Melbourne - one of around 24 Joint Walks held across Victoria during the 1996 NAW. In addition, there was a "Making Life Easier" expo held on the day. In this photo, AFV Physiotherapist, Valerie Sayce, and two others demonstrate some exercises in the park after the Joint Walk. In 1994, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV) held a "Warm Up For Winter Dance" as a fundraising event during National Arthritis Week. The dance, which was held at the San Remo Ballroom, had a multicultural theme and featured performances by professional dancers and dance troupes. During National Arthritis Week in 1996, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), incorporating Osteoporosis Victoria, held a "Making Life Easier Expo" at its headquarters in Elsternwick. In attendence was the Minister for Health, Victoria, the Honourable Rob Knowles. In this photo, AFV Physiotherapist, Valerie Sayce, leads a chair-based exercise routine during the Expo. Assisting with demonstrating the exercises are members of the Joint Action Group (JAG) and the AFV's Jenny Davidson. In June 1988, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV) had an information stand at the Investment & Retirement Seminar, which was held at the Royal Exhibition Buildings.
