The photograph shows the extensions that were built on to the former Shire of Bulla offices in the mid 1980s. The building with the curved wall and glass tiles was where the Shire of Bulla held their council meetings. The Victorian state flag and the Shire of Bulla flags are hoisted on the poles and the bust of George Evans, an early European settler in the district is on the RHS of the image. In 1963 construction of the new municipal shire offices began and the new offices were opened in October 1963. The Sunbury Library and the George Evans Museum are housed in buildings which were once extensions of the Shire of Bulla Municipal Offices. Before the Shire of Bulla built permanent offices in Macedon Street, the council used to meet in the Memorial Hall and had rooms there to conduct regular business. Some cottages were demolished to build the new offices which were completed and opened in 1966. Over the years as the shire's population increased, further additions were added. After Sunbury became part of Hume City Council, the former council building was occupied by Wester Water and Vic Roads.Apart from the former Shire of Bulla Roads Board office built in Sunbury in the 1860s, the 1966 building is the first council building to be built in Sunbury.A black and white photograph of a single storey office building and the surrounding garden. The former bluestone Bulla Shire Hall building was constructed in 1867 and remained the centre of local government until the early 20th century when the administration was moved to Sunbury. In the 1990's the Alister Clark Rose Garden was established in the surrounding grounds. The garden is open to the public all the year round. This booklet was produced to commemorate a meeting of the Hume City Council to celebrate the Centenary of Federation at the old Bulla Offices. The 'Meeise' French car is parked outside the former Mechanics Institute Hall in Stawell Street, Sunbury. J Eadie was responsible for the building of the hall in 1885 and the foundation stone was laid by Lady Janet Clarke. The former Shire of Bulla conducted their council meetings in the hall from 1923 until 1956 when new offices were built in Macedon Street. Later the RSL took over occupancy of the hall and it became known as the Memorial Hall. The men in the photograph are former councillors and they are at an ordinary meeting of the Shire of Bulla council, which took place on 15th July 1974 at the Old Shire Offices in Bulla. Council usually met at the Council Offices in Sunbury but there were times when they met at the Old Shire Offices in Bulla.
