The Mullindolingong school was opened in 1881 and was across the river from Tawonga State School with which it worked half-time from 1881 to 1894. The school was closed don from 1894 to 1923 in a different location. In 1949 it was renamed Coral Bank.It finally closed in 1954 and became part of Dederang School. Ref. Harold Brocklebank Herbert (16.09.1891-1945) Harold Herbert was one of the first pupils at the school starting in 1891, commencing as a 15 years old he studied Applied Design and Architecture at the Ballarat Technical School of design attached to the Ballarat Fine Art Galery, transferring to the Ballarat Technical Art school attached to the Ballarat School of Mines. He was a certificated Art Teacher with the Victorian Education Department. His talents were identified by Ballarat’s Ponsonby Carew-Smith who rose to become Art Inspector with the Victorian Education Department. His teaching career included being appointed Principal of the Sale Technical Art School in 1898. Harold Herbert undertook further studies in England returning to Ballarat with all new entrepreneurial ideas. He worked at the Ballarat Technical Art School between 1915-19. Harold Herbert was involved with the design of the Ballarat Arch of Victory, and was responsible for the reproductions in ‘The Education Department’s Record of War Service. Had been principal of the Sale Technical Art School since 1898, and had undertaken further studies in England returning to Ballarat with all sorts of entrepreneurial ideas. In 1924 the Ballarat School of Mines Students’ Magazine reported “We are perfectly safe in claiming on behalf of our school, that no institution of its kind has turned out a greater number of men and women students who have since “made good” while some have achieved enviable prominence in the world of art. Amongst these later, the most brilliant is Harold B. Herbert whose work is so widely and justly appreciated throughout Australia and whose achievements are watched by his old school with the greatest pride. He commenced at the School when he was about 15 years of age, and followed a course of training very similar to what most students are doing the most valuable qualities shown by him during his career as a student were a passion for drawing and a capacity for taking pains, so essential in all artwork. He was appointed as Assistant Art Teacher at Ballarat on completion of his course, and later assistant in the office of Art Inspector. All of his spare time was devoted to out-door sketching and commercial drawing and he showed an ability in practical design for various crafts quite equal to the ability he has since displayed in depictive art. His return to this School as senior master and his departure to devote himself entirely to fine art are quite recent happenings with which all students are familiar. The wonderful exhibition he held in Melbourne on return from a sketching trip abroad has place him amongst the leading artists of Australia. Upon his death in 1945 the Ballarat School of Mines Student's Magazine recorded: "The death of the famous water-colour artist, Harold Herbert, will be a distinct loss to art in Australia. he was educated at the Ballarat Art School which it was situated in Sturt Street, and the gave promise of becoming a famous artist then. his talents were recognised, and in water-colour work he quickly made a name for himself. his landscapes in water-colour are in the principle galleries of the world, and many of them are to be found in the Ballarat gallery and in other provincial galleries. In 1941 he was appointed official war artist for the COmmonwealth, and he served in the Middle East and Syria. Mary Egan was one of Ballarat's best-loved and respected educators. Commencing her teaching career as a student-teacher at Bacchus Marsh, she undertook teacher training at Melbourne Teachers' College (1941-1942). She taught in the Mildura district before returning to Ballarat in 1953, teaching infant grades at Humffray Street State School. Mary Egan joined the Ballarat Teachers' College (BTC) staff in 1958, starting a 23 year career specialising in language curriculum (ie children's literacy and literature). She was still on staff when all teachers colleges became State Colleges during the early 1970s. Along with other members of the State College Victoria, Ballarat (SCVB) staff, Mary's lecturing career continued when SCVB merged with the tertiary section of SMB at Mt Helen, later known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education (BCAE). Mary is known throughout the state for her work in teacher-training, particularly for the teaching of reading and language. A collection of specialist teaching books in the E.J. Nellie Price entered Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College in 1920. Daughter of Mr E H Price of 'Dumbarton' Sturt St W; sister of John L, Elvina Coltman & E Morris. Nell was President of the CPLC Old Collegians Association 1941-42 and Secretary 1955-57. She married Robert Smail, uncle of Andrew Smail (1954). Robert's father built the original Enderly house in Sturt St. This trophy provides a significant glimpse of both the nature and importance of sports amongst school students in the 1920s. Keith Charles Hofmaier (1927 - 1994) was one of Ballarat College's most distinguished sons. He attended the school from 1941 - 1945 serving as librarian, school prefect (1945) and member of the Rowing Firsts (1945). After school he became a successful farmer, well-known historian, organist, Freemason, philanthropist and community worker. He continued to give generously to the school and the Weatherly Library throughout his life. He endowed poetry and music prizes in memory of his daughter Ann who died in an accident. The Students' Representative Council gave a clock tot he school library in memory of his contribution to the school in 1994. Formed in 1921, A.W Steane was the first president of the Ballarat Junior Technical School Ex-Students' Association which later became the Old Boys Association. The association conducted regular social evenings at the school in order to keep past students in touch with one another and to provide amenities for the school. Fund raising dances, smoke nights, film nights and visits to local industries were held. The Old Boys Association presented the Honour Blazer to the best all-round student at Speech Night until 1941 when a wallet bearing an O.A.B. badge was given as the prize. Then in the 1950s a two-year scholarship was instituted to attend the senior school. Donations were also given to purchase library books and sporting equipment. The major event held each year was the Annual Meeting held in July usually at the Wattle Tea Rooms where up to 100 past students would meet.Multiple gold coloured metal lapel pins with enameled face. The Bete Bolong School was one of the many small schools in rural areas of East Gippsland. These schools developed during the first half of the 20th Century and functioned until bus transport in the 1950s,60s. brought the children to more regional schools at Orbost. Coverdale; Clem Healey; Gil Richardson; Ray Wait In 1912 the school at Pumpkin Point opened to serve the children of farmers living in the Bete Bolong district. This meant a big change in their way of life because in the past the children had been rowed across the Snowy River each day to attend school at Jarrahmond. Myrtle Bunting was the first HT of the school which had been erected on a block of land purchased from H. Richardson. The school functioned until 1952 when a shortage of pupils caused its closure. As a bus service to Orbost now operated, the school at Pumpkin Point faced permanent closure. J.
