In 1994, St. Albans couple Michael & Susan Salameh opened a new takeaway food shop in the former Sunshine Railway Station Parcel Office. The new shop offers made to order sandwiches, chip, shashliks, tabouli, roast beef, fired rice, fish, hamburgers, salads, cakes, chocolates, ice creams and hot and cold drinks. The shop was open from 6:00am to 6:00pm. The Sunshine Fire Station at 30 McIntyre Road, Sunshine North (MFB Station 44) officially opened on 14th May 1990, replacing the earlier Hampshire Road / Hertford Road station that had served the district since 1927.The Sunshine Fire Station’s Open Day was held on the 7th October 1990, the same year the new McIntyre Road station opened. Sunshine had traditional railway gates on Hampshire Road for decades and as traffic increased and Sunshine grew into a major industrial hub, the crossing became a bottleneck. In 1961, the Hampshire Road overpass opened, taking road traffic over the rail line and pedestrians using an underpass. The Sunshine Metropolitan Fire Station, built in 1927 at the corner of Hampshire Road and Hertford Street, served as Sunshine’s main fire station for decades. Designed by noted architect Cedric Ballantyne, it is one of the suburb’s most ornate public buildings and a key symbol of Sunshine’s rapid expansion during the inter‑war period. It closed around 1990 and was later restored and repurposed as the Tobin Brothers “Legacy of Life” Chapel.”The Sunshine Fire Station on Hampshire Road is one of Sunshine’s most historically significant civic buildings, a landmark of the suburb’s inter‑war growth, its industrial identity, and its long relationship with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade. These photographs were taken after the fire station closed and relocated to McIntyre Road in Sunshine North, but before the building was restored and repurposed for use by Tobin Brothers. The Sunshine Centenary Fire Truck refers to the special appliance displayed during Sunshine’s 1990 Centenary celebrations, when the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) showcased a modern Sunshine fire appliance as part of the suburb’s 100‑year anniversary events. It is associated with the opening of the new Sunshine Fire Station at McIntyre Road in the same year (1990), which coincided with Sunshine’s centenary. This was not a vintage truck or a ceremonial rebuild (like NSW’s “White Knight” centenary truck). Collected by Tom RiggUntil about 1884 the general area now occupied by Sunshine / Braybrook was known as CUT PAW PAW. The Melbourne to Bendigo railway was built in 1859 and the railway to Ballarat began first to Melton in 1884 to Parwan in 1886 and to Bacchus Marsh in 1887. The junction of the two lines was known as Bacchus Marsh Junction during construction and after completion the area became Braybrook Junction no doubt influenced by the nearby settlement of Braybrook. In 1907 the Braybrook Junction Progress Association petitioned the Victorian Railways Commissioners requesting that the station name be changed to Sunshine Junction possibly recognising the dominating presence of the Sunshine Harvester Works. Approval was very promptly granted by the Commissioners and in the Victoria Gazette of July 17 1907 page 3419 the Victorian Railways gazetted that on and after Monday 15th July the name of Braybrook Junction station will be changed to Sunshine.sunshine railway station, railway
