Painting, Paul McDonald Smith, Flower Study, 1997
McDonald Smith is famous for paining in the tradition of tonal impressionism, with most of his works painted in oil. This influence of the European Impressionist art style is clearly seen in his artwork Flower Study. The notion of light, an impressionist theme, is depicted by the use of a tonal colour palette and varied brushstrokes. The depiction of a Japanese dragon vase hints at the art aesthetic of Japonisme in the European Impressionist movement, a possible nod of respect to the movement by McDonald Smith.Rural City of Wangaratta Collection, Wangaratta Art Prize 1997.A rectangular still life painting of a bunch of flowers in a vase painted in oil using shades of white, red, green, blue, and yellow.Obverse: P McDONALD SMITH (bottom right corner)wangaratta art gallery, painting, still life, paul mcdonald smith -

Painting, Helen A'Beckett Read, Nocturne, 1980
Helen A’Beckett Read is a traditional painter who did not start her career until later in life. Her art style in Nocturne can be described as contemporary impressionism, as the use of a tonal colour palette and the style of brushstrokes are impressionistic while the style of the landscape depiction is contemporary. While Helen A’Beckett Read is an accomplished artist in her own merit, she is also a member of the famous Boyd family being the daughter of Arthur Boyd and Emma Minnie A'Beckett.ContemporaryRural City of Wangaratta Council Collection. Machine - Object, Telex Corporation, Telex cassette player
A talking book player that allowed the user to change the tone and speed of cassettes played in it. Designed to handle both 4 track and 2 track cassettes, these players were the perfect solution to having both commercial (2 track) and recordings for the blind (4 track) materials without needing separate players. Tonal changes in particular were sometimes required by older listeners, as aging reduces the ability to distinguish high pitch sounds. Speed variability also allowed those who read faster to increase narration, and to slow down reading patterns for listeners with acquired brain injury or other conditions that affected cognitive processing of language.Blue plastic rectangular talking book player with buttons for navigational controls and 5 buttons.Model tbci serial no 8017. Disney World Florida USA 25th Anniversary 1996, Massimo Di Sora, (exact); 1996
MEDIUM: Photo/collage DESCRIPTION: Photo collage Green wooden outer frame with glass front Image and yellow board inner frame under glass. The complete image is made up of 18 individual photographs compiled together to make one image. The image is of Disney Florida’s 25th Anniversary; here the artist captures the excitement and colour of such an event. The textural quality this collage technique offers is an interesting one. Each photograph has an individual quality about it, the outer perimeters of each print having lighter or darker edges to its neighbouring print. Continuous lines do not always meet; the tops of spiers are at times cut off. The tonal qualities of each print also vary, some slightly, some dramatically different to each other. Converge - Collins Street Window Reflection, Greg Considine, 2005
MEDIUM: Photographic print. DESCRIPTION: A photograph of abstract architecture. Black outer frame with glass front panel and white board inner frame. An abstract collection of building faces meeting towards a left off centre vertical line collision point. This picture is a meeting of mirrors, how many remains a mystery. Where one mirror or building starts and another ends, to the viewers eye is met with some uncertainty. Following lines, the clearest meeting of mirrors is where the building on the left appears to be the same and collides with a variety of other buildings coming horizontally in a distinct vertical line to the top of the image. The bulidings on the right have somehow through the skill of the photographer captured a bermuda triangle of walls. The mirroring angles of the walls being from either several different buildings, or from several different mirrors. This creates a strange collecetion of imagery, the viewer unable to make clear distinctions of where something starts or ends or from where it is coming from. The tonal shades and shadows created also play a role in creating an interesting collage of shapes and lines. This piece essentially speaks of lines, angles, geometric shapes, meeting points, shadow and light. Signed and dated on white board inner frame, directly under left corner of image.photograph, st, considine, converge, collins -

Ceramic - Artwork- Ceramic, Blue Goblet by John O'Loughlin
John O'LOUGHLIN Born Snowtown, South Australia In 1980 John O'Loughlin's life changed when he started wheel throwing ceramic vessels. During this time he discarded the superfluous and unnecessary clutter collected on the journey of life, yet retaining the essence of what mattered to him. John O’Loughlin's later artworks engages with the way in which organised religion, specifically the Catholic Church, deals with the translation of the spiritual into the material. Informed by his extensive travels and studies, O’Loughlin’s ceramics reference the reliquaries and church artefacts that connect the life of this world with that of faith in another world. Completing undergeduate and post graduate works at Federation University John O'Loughlin's honours thesis was entitled "Ways and Means of Meaning, The Use of Symbol and Surface as Expressive Media in Ceramic Sculpture". The University provided a serious ceramic studio equipped with all the research tools for advanced ceramic exploration. Access to raw materials and a variety of kilns combined with excellent lecturers, mentors and technicians inspired, motivated and challenged him to push his accumulating knowledge to higher levels. O'Loughlin's working method in the studio is one of quiet, determined interaction with clay, idea and content. Experimentation with a variety of temperatures, firing methods and atmospheric conditions has produced a broad tonal and textural palette. He has worked with various clay bodies overlaid with coloured oxides, slips and engobes as the foundation for many of his works. O'Loughlin ufilised raised surfaces from old cemetery tombstones using the impressed forms and textures in his constructions. This research led him to the use of dry engobes to create a sense of antiquity, with crusty and distressed surfaces that resemble objects neglected in the oceans. These objects seem covered with the accretions and accumulations of history when re-discovered and brought to the surface as miraculous objects of mystery and magic.
