The Motorman or Conductor in winter uniform with SEC type number on his hat and a 3-button coat. Photograph shows 23 men standing and sitting in rows facing the camera with the brick wall and barred window of the Brunswick car house (depot) administration building behind. Three men are dressed in suits, ties and hats and the remaining 20 are in full tramway (MTOC or interim Tramway Board) uniform with caps, some wearing the large pins used by conductors. As the MTOC only provided full uniforms to its traffic staff from 1901, the photograph can be dated between 1901 and the early 1920s, when the new Tramways Board (M&MTB) supplied a different uniform and cap. Two of the men in suits are the line manager and revenue clerk. There are many similar staff photos from this era which suggests they were initiated by MTOC. Yields information about Brunswick cable tram employees Black and white photograph glued to paper with note below. Note reads: "Brunswick cabletram Depot" then lists the names and duties of 10 of the 23 men pictured, which includes a line manager, revenue clerk, gripmen, conductors and car washer. brunswick car house (depot), suits and hats, full tramway uniform, line manage, mtoc, m&mtb, line manager, revenue clerk

Photograph shows 12 men standing and sitting in rows facing the camera with a stone wall behind. One man, presumably the depot master, is dressed in a suit, tie and hat. The other 11 are in full tramway (MTOC) uniform with caps, two wearing the large pins used by conductors. As the MTOC only provided full uniforms to its traffic staff from 1901, this photograph can be dated between 1901 and 1916 when MTOC ceased, not 1895. The location was probably the Victoria Bridge car house (depot) in Victoria Street, North Richmond just west of the Yarra River, not a workshop. The usual flat fare for adults was three pennies, pronounced thrippence, not tuppence which was two pennies. There are many similar staff photos from this era which suggests they were initiated by MTOC. Yields information about Brunswick cable tram employees Black and white newsprint photograph with notes below. Appears to be a more recent compilation using the original photograph with added contemporary and sometimes inaccurate text.Notes read: "These are nine gripmen, two conductors and the depot-master in this remarkable old shot" "Melbourne cable trammies in 1895 [sic]. Those were the days when you could take a ride around town for tuppence [sic] - or a penny ha'penny if you were under age. Picture was taken at North Richmond workshops [sic]" full tramway uniform, mtoc, depot master, large pins, victoria bridge car house, thrippence

Tram line up at the depot with the same personnel (Item 9234) in formal poses in each photo., They are attired in the MESCo uniform that suggests that the photographs were taken before the State Electricity Commission of Victoria takeover on 1 September, 1930. The ex-Melbourne Meadowbank cars 27 and 29 first ran in Geelong in 1928. Date of the photos would therefore be restricted to 1928-1930 but it is possible that they were taken close to or on the handover date as a final record.
