The photograph shows the interior of either VR tram 52, 53 or 54. The note on the rear of the photograph referencing tram 41 is incorrect. This photograph was taken from one end of the drop-centre looking through drop-centre to the other saloon. In the foreground the tops of the timber traverse seating can be seen along with the lined ceiling, curved light shades, strap handles for standing passengers and open sliding doors. In the saloon longitudinal upholstered seating can be seen that was a feature of these cars between 1946 and 1959. ESCo Employee Hours Work Record book that has been used by an ESCo/SEC inspector, H. P. James as a record / note book for his personal collection or papers or journal titled "Out of the Past". Book sewn with string in 36 page sections, blank end papers, board covers with stipple paper out sides and Rexene cloth binding. Comprising plain paper end papers and 104 printed pages (52 leaves), with each sheet printed in black on feint ruled paper for recording the hours worked and other details of drivers and conductors employed by ESCo. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Photograph of one of the three Victorian Railways "Luxury" cars that were sold to the MMTB following the closure of the final section of the St Kilda - Brighton tramway on 28-2-1959. The tramcar has been placed on No. 15 trucks to enable movement around the workshops. Two of the trams, No. 52 and 53 were modified with longer running boards, full driver's bulkheads to replace the blackout blinds, route number boxes, removal of the red oil lamps above the headlight, conversion to from Broad gauge (5'3") to standard gauge, changes to destination boxes, seating and many other changes.
