... Today, now an almost forgotten location in Deer Park, the water hole provides a tranquil location for visitors to relax and watch the creek slowly flowing past and the birdlife that frequent the area....Water holes along the Kororoit Creek and Maribyrnong River were once used for providing drinking water, relaxation, recreation sport and spots to cool off on the long summer days. ...No formal name has been assigned to this reserve. From research, which is still to be confirmed, it is believed the Deer Park Lions Club installed the infrastructure in the area, which includes the wooden path, table and bench seat, therefore for convenience we will refer to it as the Lions Club Reserve. Situated on the west bank of the Kororoit Creek, it lies directly opposite the Deer Park Hotel, where a swimming hole once enjoyed popularity among the early residents of Deer Park. Unfortunately, as the surrounding areas were developed for residential and industrial requirements, along came pollution that made these holes unsafe to swim in. The use of these holes were discouraged in the mid 1900's and subsequently the local Councils of the district started to provide man made swimming pools such as the ones located in Sunshine and St. Albans. Today, now an almost forgotten location in Deer Park, the water hole provides a tranquil location for visitors to relax and watch the creek slowly flowing past and the birdlife that frequent the area.Water holes along the Kororoit Creek and Maribyrnong River were once used for providing drinking water, relaxation, recreation sport and spots to cool off on the long summer days.5651.01 - Lions Club Reserve Kororoit Creek West Bank Deer Park 2021 Photo 23.JPG 5651.02 - Lions Club Reserve Kororoit Creek West Bank Deer Park 2021 Photo 17.JPG 5651.03 - Lions Club Reserve Kororoit Creek West Bank Deer Park 2021 Photo 19.JPG 5651.04 - Lions Club Reserve Kororoit Creek West Bank Deer Park 2021 Photo 20.JPG 5651.05 - Lions Club Reserve Kororoit Creek West Bank Deer Park 2021 Photo 21.JPG ballarat road, deer park, kororoit creek, deer park lions club -

George and son Henry paid their own fares while sons , Francis and John, were 'assisted passengers'. Their baby daughter Cecilia Lydia died a few days into the voyage.. Caroline Box, the eldest daughter, remained in England working as a cook until she joined the family in Australia in 1863. William Box 1834-1902, the eldest son of George Box, married Elizabeth Avis 1833- 1914 and they resided in Box Cottage 1865 -1914 where they established a market garden and raised 13 children. William and Elizabeth had emigrated in 1854 so George and sons probably worked on their market garden before setting up in Tucker Road and Patterson Road. Sadly Mary drowned in a water hole only 4 months after their arrival in Brighton. Mary suffered from headaches and had occasional fits and the coroner found she passed out and died while trying to ease the pain with cold water from a waterhole. It is supposed that Elizabeth helped him raise the children while he established his market garden. George died from Tetanus following an infected broken leg caused by falling from his dray in 1867. George and Mary were both buried in the Brighton Cemetery. Box Cottage Museum, a reconstruction of an early settler hut, is named after the Box family who resided there 1865 -1913 . George Box was the father of William Box who with his wife Elizabeth Avis Box and 13 children lived and farmed on the block of land in Jasper Road, East Brighton ( now McKinnon / Ormond) that was part of the Henry Dendy Special Survey 1841 Inscribed in Album : “ The early photos in this album were found by Mr (Laurie) Lewis when he was demolishing the Old Box Cottage. He gave them to Mrs Avis Box Eldridge who in turn gave them to me. They were not identified. I believe they rightly belong in the Cottage. I have attempted to identify them and present them in a way they can be preserved as a historical record of the era.” A B Leigh A black and white photograph of George Box taken in Tunbridge Wells, England c1855Photo at base ; TUNBRIDGE WELLS Album inside cover ; Donated to / Moorabbin / Historical Society / by / Avis Box Leigh box george, box mary, box william, box elizabeth, box alonzo, box mary louisa, dendy henry, were j b, dendy's special survey 1841, brighton, moorabbin, bentleigh, mckinnon, ormond, market gardeners, dairy farms, early settlers, pioneers, jasper road, gurr jabez, gurr eliza, pay henry, pay anna, ward willam, box henry, ward elizabeth emma, box john, sheldrake martha, rushall eleanor, box caroline, tetanus -

He migrated to South Australia and by 1914 was stationed in Mount Gambier as a missionary in connection with St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. At that stage he was a student of Divinity. He moved to Victoria and served in Beech Forest and Kyabram. After three years in Kyabram, Reverend Bremner transferred to Wodonga in April 1919. Although only in Wodonga for two years, Reverend Bremner quickly became highly regarded in the community for the compassion he brought to his calling. He was particularly concerned about the welfare of boys in Wodonga and became involved in the Scouts as well as establishing the Wodonga Boys’ Club. Although the Boys’ Club had been formed through the Church it was open to all local boys. Tragedy struck on 20th November 1920 when Reverend Bremner was accompanying a group of boys on an outing to the Wodonga Creek. In order to stop the boys from entering a deep water hole he positioned himself on a log between it and the shallower water. Unfortunately he slipped off the log himself and fell into the waterhole. He was unable to swim and despite the best efforts of one of the boys to rescue him, he drowned. To add further to the tragedy, his fiancé was on her way to Wodonga by train to visit Reverend Bremner for the weekend. She could not be advised of his death before arriving at the station where she expected him to be waiting. As a mark of respect, a hall was erected at the back of the Wodonga Presbyterian Church in High Street to serve as a kindergarten and Sunday School. It was officially opened on Sunday 6th November 1921 and named Bremner Hall. This album is significant because it documents the service and untimely death of a highly regarded Minister of the Presbyterian Church in Wodonga.A small brown photo album containing photos and newspaper articles chronicling the drowning of Reverend Alexander Sutherland Bremner in Wodonga.reverend a.s. bremner, presbyterian church, bremner hall -

Potted trees required regular watering ...We have been unable to find a brand name or identify any identical items online or in other collections, indicating that this may be a custom-made tool designed specifically for use on a nursery - potentially C.A. Nobelius' nursery. It appears to be a foot-pedal operated hole punch, designed to reliably puncture metal pots for orchard trees. In the 1940s, the Nobelius nursery began to lift trees from the ground and sell them in pots rather than as bare-rooted plants; at this time, plastic was not yet widely available and many discarded biscuit or fruit tins were reused as pots. Potted trees required regular watering, and holes in the bottom of the pot for water to run out from; this hole punch may have facilitated an easier potting process until the popularisation of plastic pots in the 1960s.This item was a tool used in nursery practices in the 1940s, potentially including on the Nobelius nursery. Similar items are rare or difficult to find. This item rests on a cross base, with holes in each of the cross arms to allow it to be secured. The lower third of the central shaft is hollow, allowing for a foot pedal to descend through it. The middle third of the shaft is also hollow, with a loose central section affixed to the foot pedal moving up and down within it. In the upper third of the shaft, the hollow outer layer ends, and the mobile inner shaft is wrapped in a spring and affixed to the crossbar at the top of the item. Four small fixed crossbars also emerge from the sides of the middle third, attached to vertical rods through a rotating joint; the vertical rods attach with another rotating joint to pieces emerging through through the upper crossbar surface and ending with sharp points. The base and central shaft was painted yellow, and the upper crossbar head is painted red, though both are heavily faded. Together, these parts form a contraption that, when the foot pedal is pressed down, pulls the head downwards, in the process rotating the pointed pieces inwards to puncture the item placed on the head. When pressure is released, the spring returns the head to its initial position.N/Anursery, tools -
