The photograph is part of a series of five, depicting the Ariston in dry docks in Hoboken, New jersey, on the 26th of August, 1947. This photograph shows the front of the ship while in the dry dock.

Significance

This is a photograph from the Allan Charles Quinn collection which is a collection of letters and photograph depicting aspects of life at sea for a young man in the era immediately following World War II.

There is also a small mark in blue ink in the left hand bottom corner.
