Historical information
The memorial cross was installed in the Army drill hall at 16 George Street, Fitzroy, Victoria. The drill hall was associated with the Australian Infantry 29/22 Battalion. The drill hall later became the Regimental Headquarters of the 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse Regiment. In 1975 correspondence began between the Regiment and the Australian War Memorial about transferring the cross to the AWM as being a more appropriate location.
