Summary

Vanessa (1933) is the final instalment of Walpole’s Herries Chronicle, with the family saga now in the early twentieth century. The Herries Chronicle is a multi generational saga set in the Lake District. The earlier volumes are Rogue Herries (1930), Judith Paris (1931) and The Fortress (1932). The Project Gutenberg Australia text lists Vanessa as Adam Paris’s daughter and Judith Paris’s granddaughter. The novel ends just before the First World War, with Vanessa’s love story.
