Driver William A Howse was an 18 year old shop assistant serving with the 17th Battery Australian Field Artillery, Albury’s militia battery, when he volunteered for the AIF in 1915 with 150 other members and ex-members of the battery. He served as a Driver in the 13th Battery (Albury Battery) 5th Field Artillery Brigade throughout the war.
