Summary

During the second World War, in December 1941 at a meeting of the Box Hill City Council, Mr R H L Sparks, the Mayor at the time, presented a detailed report regarding the possibility of establishing a community hospital. Several sites were inspected but by 1942 it was decided that the most suitable was land in Nelson Road, part of the property owned by Mrs Rodgerson who lived in Upton House on the crest of the hill near Thames Street.
