Historical information

The sketches, contents were by William Cecil Dunford who trained in Artistry in the U.K and was posted to the YMCA as an Officer War Artist, his subjects were YMCA Places and Australian Diggers. It is believed that the originals are held by the AWM. Refer AWM Collection “NR P05307.003 which is a portrait of DUNFORD and a short biography.

Physical description

Large red buckram covered album with ornate gold trim on front, rear and spine, there are 31 sketches and photographic copies by War artist W.C.Dunford, on first page is a photo of YMCA Officers on Salisbury Plain July 1917.

Inscriptions & markings

Label on the spine, “Sketches by C Dunford of 1914 - 18 war, scenes in Flanders. On the last page in pencil, “Methuen”
