Historical information

Charles Robert Rooney was born 1894 and worked as a gardener at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens until joining the Army in July 1915, aged 21 years. Charles was recorded as "Killed in Action" on 26th November 1917. Charles was the son of Tom Rooney, curator at the gardens until 1914.

Significance

Little is known of Charles Rooney's contribution to the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, as he was only twenty-one when he enlisted and went to War and was reported "killed in action".
