This was a fund raising event for the Chelsea Life Saving Club. Mrs Flint was crowned Queen.
Chelsea Life Saving Club was formed in 1917. The club competed in local and state carnivals across Victoria.
Significance
Chelsea was very popular with visitors and locals, who enjoyed the sandy beaches and bay waters. The need for life saving clubs became evident. The clubs provided the dual purpose of saving swimmers from drowning and teaching members of the community swimming and resuscitation methods.
